The display can use a higher rate when motion benefits and a lower one when it does not. If you prioritize longer runtime, try a standard or lower-rate option; if scrolling, pen work, animations, or supported games feel less responsive, try adaptive or higher refresh instead. The best setting depends on your tablet and how you use it—there is no guaranteed battery saving figure.
What refresh rate changes
Refresh rate is how many times per second a display updates, measured in hertz (Hz). A higher rate can make scrolling and animation look smoother, but only when the tablet’s display and the content support it. An app asking for a particular frame rate does not force the display to use that rate; Android considers the available display modes, device settings, system conditions, app requests, and what is on screen.
That is why there is no single Android-wide refresh-rate switch or behavior that applies to every tablet. Manufacturers decide which display modes the hardware supports and which choices appear in Settings.
Should you use 60Hz or 120Hz?
If your tablet offers fixed 60Hz and 120Hz options, the choice is a trade-off rather than a universal rule. The higher setting can improve motion smoothness when the panel and app can use it; the lower setting can be a reasonable choice when conserving battery matters more than maximum smoothness.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| Mode | What you may notice | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard or lower rate (often 60Hz, if offered) | Less fluid scrolling or animation than a supported higher rate; actual battery impact varies by device and workload. | Long reading sessions, mostly static content, or when you want to prioritize runtime. |
| Higher fixed rate (such as 120Hz, if offered) | Smoother motion in compatible interface interactions, apps, or games; it does not guarantee that every app or screen runs at that rate. | Frequent scrolling, supported pen interactions, animated interfaces, or games that render at higher frame rates. |
| Adaptive | The device can vary refresh behavior according to its implementation and current content or conditions. | A practical first setting when you want smooth interaction without keeping the display at its highest rate all the time. |
These are general trade-offs, not a promise that switching from 120Hz to 60Hz will save a particular percentage or number of hours. The available evidence does not establish a universal battery comparison across Android tablets.
Should you turn on adaptive refresh rate?
Usually, it is a sensible first choice when the tablet provides it and you want both responsive motion and reasonable battery use. Android 15 adds a platform feature called Adaptive Refresh Rate, which lets a supported display adapt its refresh rate to content frame cadence using discrete VSync steps. Android says this can reduce power use and jank, but manufacturers must implement it in the device’s hardware and software and determine the power trade-offs. Android 15 alone does not mean a tablet has this feature.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Manufacturers may also offer adaptive or dynamic behavior under their own names. For example, Samsung says the Galaxy Tab S9 series dynamically calibrates from 60Hz to 120Hz to balance responsiveness and battery efficiency. That description applies to that product series, not every Samsung tablet, and is a manufacturer statement rather than an independent battery-life comparison.
How to find and compare the setting
- Open Settings and look under Display for a control named Refresh rate, Motion smoothness, Adaptive, or something similar. Labels and menu locations vary by manufacturer and model.
- If there are several options, note which one is adaptive and which is fixed or standard. The listed choices depend on the tablet’s panel and manufacturer settings.
- Use the tablet normally with one setting, then compare it with another during similar activities—for example, the same reading, scrolling, or game session. Keep brightness, power mode, and workload as similar as practical.
- Judge smoothness during the interactions that matter to you, and check battery use over a meaningful period rather than drawing a conclusion from a brief percentage change.
This comparison is a practical way to choose for your own use, not a manufacturer-validated battery test protocol. If Settings has no refresh-rate option, the tablet may not expose a choice; if its panel does not support a higher rate, a software setting cannot add one.

How Battery Saver and apps affect the result
Android’s platform documentation says Battery Saver restricts refresh rate to 60Hz or lower while the device is in low-power mode. So a high-rate selection may not describe what the display is doing while Battery Saver is active. Android’s display scheduler may also decline an app’s requested rate based on other factors, so an app’s frame-rate request is not proof that the panel is refreshing at that rate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why behavior differs by tablet
Android supports configurable default, minimum, and peak display rates, but those platform mechanisms do not guarantee that a specific tablet has a high-refresh panel or exposes a manual 60Hz/120Hz toggle. Android 15’s adaptive feature likewise depends on device-maker implementation.

Specifications also need careful reading: the cited Google Pixel Tablet specification identifies screen size and panel type but does not state a high-refresh mode in the available specification excerpt. That is not grounds to assign it an exact refresh rate. Google’s battery guidance instead points to general measures such as Adaptive Battery and a shorter screen timeout; these are separate from refresh-rate selection.
