Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Then compare its support end date, price, size, camera, storage and form factor. Before you buy, confirm that the exact device can have its bootloader unlocked: “unlocked” for cellular networks does not necessarily mean bootloader-unlockable.
Start with GrapheneOS’s supported-device list
GrapheneOS maintains a specific list of devices with official production support. Its current FAQ lists the Pixel 10a; Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL and 10 Pro Fold; Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold and 9a; Pixel 8, 8 Pro and 8a; and selected Pixel Fold, Tablet, 7-series and 6-series devices. Check the official supported-device list before choosing a phone, since support for a product family does not mean every Pixel is eligible.
For a new purchase, GrapheneOS strongly recommends the Pixel 8 and newer. The project cites improved security and a seven-year minimum support guarantee from launch for these generations. They also support hardware memory tagging, which GrapheneOS uses by default to protect the base operating system and compatible apps. These are reasons to favor a newer eligible model over an older one, even if an older phone is cheaper.
Compare the remaining OEM support by model
The dates below are the minimum OEM support end dates listed by GrapheneOS in its FAQ, checked on October 7, 2026. They are not guarantees that GrapheneOS builds will continue through those exact dates. GrapheneOS says its updates typically end shortly after the OEM minimum guarantee, and advises buyers not to rely on extra months.

| Model | OEM minimum support end date |
|---|---|
| Pixel 10a | March 2033 |
| Pixel 10 Pro Fold | October 2032 |
| Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 | August 2032 |
| Pixel 9a | April 2032 |
| Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 | August 2031 |
| Pixel 8a | May 2031 |
| Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8 | October 2030 |
| Pixel 7a | May 2028 |
| Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro | October 2027 |
| Pixel 6a | July 2027 |
| Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro | October 2026 |
These dates are useful for comparing the expected support runway, not for predicting a precise final GrapheneOS update. The project explains the dependency directly: “GrapheneOS can only fully provide security updates to a device provided that the OEM is releasing them.” Its FAQ also describes extended support releases as a temporary transition measure that cannot provide full security patches.
Match the phone to your budget and priorities
Once you have filtered for supported and unlockable devices, choose based on the hardware you will actually use. Prices, promotions and stock change by seller and region, so compare current local prices for the exact storage configuration rather than treating any price as a durable model feature.

For the longest listed support runway: Pixel 10a
Among the listed current models, the Pixel 10a has the latest minimum OEM support end date in GrapheneOS’s table: March 2033. It is a sensible starting point if your main priorities are buying a new supported phone and keeping it for as long as the listed OEM support window allows. Compare its local price and available storage with other eligible Pixels before deciding.
For a broader choice of hardware: Pixel 10 family
The Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL and 10 Pro Fold give you more choices of size and form factor. Google’s comparison shows compact 6.3-inch models alongside larger Pro XL and foldable options. The base Pixel 10 adds a telephoto camera relative to the 10a; Google lists more advanced camera hardware and zoom features for Pro models. Choose a Pro or foldable model for its specific camera or screen configuration, not simply because it costs more.

Google lists the Pixel 10 with a Tensor G5 processor, Titan M2 security coprocessor, 12 GB of RAM, 128 GB or 256 GB of storage and a 6.3-inch display. Google also states that the Pixel 10 receives seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates. Those are Google’s stock Pixel specifications and update policy; they are not an independent performance assessment or a separate GrapheneOS update guarantee. See Google’s Pixel 10 specifications and Google’s Pixel phone comparison for model-specific configurations.
For a lower purchase price: consider older eligible models carefully
An older supported Pixel may cost less, but its shorter support runway can make it a poor value if you plan to keep the phone for years. For example, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro have a listed OEM minimum support end date of October 2030, while Pixel 7 and 6 models have dates in 2027 or 2026. Weigh any savings against how soon the stated support period ends, and verify that the device remains listed as production-supported when you are ready to install.

Check size, storage and form factor before choosing
- Size: Compare the listed display size and the physical form of the exact model. A compact phone, an XL model and a foldable serve different handling preferences.
- Camera: Decide whether you need a telephoto camera or the additional camera and zoom features listed for Pro models. The 10a and base 10 do not have the same camera setup.
- Storage: Check the precise storage tier for the model and consider your expected apps, photos and video. Configurations vary.
- Form factor: Keep standard phones, XL phones and foldables in consideration only when the particular model is on GrapheneOS’s supported list.
Verify bootloader unlocking before you buy
Bootloader unlocking is a separate requirement from cellular network unlocking. GrapheneOS notes that some carrier devices have bootloader unlocking disabled; it identifies US carrier devices as a common source of this restriction and recommends avoiding them or confirming unlockability first. The same nominal Pixel model may be sold with different firmware policies.
- Identify the exact model, seller and country or region for the device you plan to buy.
- Ask the seller or manufacturer whether that exact device permits OEM bootloader unlocking. A marketplace label saying “unlocked” for network use is not proof.
- Check GrapheneOS’s supported-device FAQ for the model, then recheck the official releases page when you are ready to install. The releases page lists active device targets and release information.
Make the choice
Choose the Pixel 10a if its price, storage and hardware suit you and the longest listed OEM support runway is your priority. Choose a Pixel 10-series model when you want a particular display size, telephoto or Pro camera hardware, or foldable form factor. Consider an older supported Pixel only after weighing its lower price against its earlier support end date. In every case, let GrapheneOS’s current device list and the exact phone’s bootloader policy determine whether a listing is a viable purchase.
