For phones, tablets, laptops and other small electronics, the Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 175W Power Supply (2846-20) is the M18 model to evaluate. It has a 120V AC outlet rated for 175W continuous, a USB-C Power Delivery port rated up to 45W and a USB-A port rated up to 15W. Match your device’s input and startup needs to the output for the port you plan to use; the 175W rating does not mean every plug-in device is suitable.
How to choose the right Milwaukee M18 power supply
- Identify how you will power the device. Use the 120V AC outlet for equipment with a compatible AC adapter, or the USB ports for devices that charge over USB. The 2846-20 has one AC outlet, one USB-C PD port and one USB-A port. Milwaukee’s 2846-20 product page lists the ports and intended small-device use.
- Check the device’s input requirement. Read the label on its charger or consult the device maker’s specifications. For AC, the load must remain within 175W continuous; for USB-C, the output is up to 45W; for USB-A, it is up to 15W. A device that exceeds the port’s limit, or has a startup surge beyond what the supply can handle, is not a suitable match.
- Consider runtime and battery capacity. The power supply requires an M18 battery, which is sold separately. Larger capacity can provide more energy, but actual runtime or charge count depends on the battery and connected load.
- Confirm cable compatibility. USB-C Power Delivery fast charging requires a cable compatible with the connected device. Device cords are not included.
What the M18 TOP-OFF 2846-20 can power
Milwaukee describes the 2846-20 as suitable for laptops, cellphones, TVs and other small devices. Its AC outlet is 120V and rated at 175W continuous. USB-C PD supports up to 45W, while USB-A supports up to 15W. These are output limits, not guarantees that a particular device will operate or charge at its maximum rate.
Milwaukee’s operator manual excludes appliances, power tools, air conditioners, sump pumps, compressors and other larger electrical devices. Do not use the 2846-20 for those loads. Check both normal draw and startup demand before connecting any AC device. The operator manual provides the output ratings and use restrictions.

How long will an M18 battery run or charge devices?
Milwaukee’s TOP-OFF Announcement Chart V3 gives battery-specific estimates. These are manufacturer figures, not independently tested guarantees; the chart text does not provide enough test detail to promise the same results for every device or use pattern.

The chart does not state its date. Use the figures to compare the listed battery capacities rather than as a runtime guarantee for a specific device. Milwaukee’s TOP-OFF announcement also claims charging up to 75% faster to 80% than conventional 5W wall chargers and gives an example of a smartphone reaching 0–50% in roughly 30 minutes. Those are Milwaukee claims; results depend on the device and a compatible USB-C cable.
Will a Milwaukee M18 inverter run a laptop?
The 2846-20 is intended for small electronics, including laptops, but check your laptop’s power requirement and charging method. For USB-C charging, the laptop must support USB-C Power Delivery at a level the 45W port can provide, and you need a compatible cable. For AC charging, the laptop adapter and its load must fit within the 175W continuous AC limit. Some higher-power laptops may require more than the available USB-C output or exceed the AC limit, so verify the adapter label rather than assuming compatibility from the laptop category alone.

What to know before buying
- The 2846-20 accepts M18 batteries, but it does not include a battery, charger or device cords. Check the product listing for included items.
- Runtime depends on the battery capacity and the connected load; choose a compatible battery based on how long you need to use the equipment.
- USB-C PD fast charging depends on compatibility among the power supply, cable and device.
- If a connected USB load is below 3W for six hours, the manual says the USB outputs shut off; press the USB Power On/Off button to reactivate them. See the operator manual.
