Start with a set whose subject you would enjoy both building and keeping on display. Then compare its building features and finished dimensions with the space you have. Piece count can give a sense of scale, but it cannot tell you how long a build will take or whether you will enjoy it.
Choose a subject you want to live with
A display set is part project and part decor, so think about the finished model as well as the hours spent assembling it. Botanical decor, architecture, and minerals offer very different looks. Consider what the builder likes and where the model might go: a plant-inspired centerpiece, a landmark, or a compact arrangement of decorative objects.
The LEGO Group’s listings offer useful examples: LEGO Orchid 10311, LEGO Neuschwanstein Castle 21063, LEGO Tower Bridge 21067, and LEGO Ideas Mineral Collection 21362. These are examples of different trade-offs, not an independently tested ranking.
Compare the kind of building experience you want
Look for specific features in the set description rather than treating piece count as a proxy for enjoyment. Ask whether you would rather customize parts of a model, assemble architectural details, or build something with a movable feature.

Measure the display space before choosing
Compare the completed model’s listed height, width, and depth with the actual shelf, desk, or cabinet—not just the space you think it occupies. Width can be the deciding constraint: Tower Bridge is listed at 35 in. (89 cm) wide, while Mineral Collection’s combined arrangement is listed at 11 in. (28 cm) wide.

Use piece count as context, not a promise
These examples range from 608 pieces for Orchid to 3,745 for Tower Bridge. That helps describe relative scale, but it does not establish how long a particular person will take to build a set or how satisfying the experience will be. The official listings provide product specifications, not independent measurements of build time or enjoyment.
