When choosing a Hall-effect keyboard, start with layout and connectivity, then compare the controls you can actually configure: per-key actuation, reset behavior, Rapid Trigger, analog output, and profiles. Build and typing feel matter just as much if you will use the board beyond gaming. A high polling-rate figure alone does not prove that a keyboard will feel faster in play.
What Hall-effect changes—and what it does not
A standard mechanical switch registers a press at a fixed actuation point. A Hall-effect keyboard reads key position through its travel, which can let you set where a press begins registering. Some models also use that position data for dynamic reset behavior, commonly called Rapid Trigger.
Actuation and Rapid Trigger are different controls: actuation sets where a press registers; Rapid Trigger changes how a key resets and can register again as it moves. The implementation and available software controls vary by model, so check whether adjustments are global or available per key.
RTINGS measured release latency from the start of key release to the corresponding USB release packet. It reports 1–18 ms for the rapid-trigger-capable keyboards it tested, excluding one outlier, and cautions that its small-scale experimental test needs a noticeable error margin for absolute values. That range is not a guarantee for every Hall-effect keyboard. RTINGS also notes that 10 ms is generally very good, though arguably low enough not to matter. Its cited example of Usain Bolt’s 146 ms reaction time in the 2009 100 m world record illustrates that human reaction time can outweigh a few milliseconds of keyboard release latency; it is context, not a keyboard benchmark. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose the layout you can live with
Layout changes daily use: smaller boards save desk space but omit dedicated keys, and may rely on layers to access functions you would otherwise press directly. Consider which keys you use often, not just how much room the board occupies.
- 60%: A compact option, but arrows, navigation keys, and function keys may require layers. Think through your usual typing, work, and game controls before choosing one.
- TKL or 80%: Keeps more dedicated keys than a 60% board while omitting the numpad. The reviewed Wooting 80HE is TKL.
- Full-size: Provides a dedicated numpad as well as the main key cluster; check the exact model’s layout and features because the reviewed examples below do not cover this category.
The Wooting 60HE v2 is a 60% model, while the 80HE is TKL. The 80HE review notes that it has no dedicated media keys. See RTINGS’ Wooting 80HE review and its Wooting 60HE v2 review.

Check connectivity before comparing features
Confirm that the connection type suits the computer or console you will use. A board that meets your layout and gaming needs may still be a poor fit if you require wireless or Bluetooth operation. Both reviewed Wooting examples are wired-only, so do not assume that a Hall-effect model supports wireless connections.
Compare the controls you will use
Look beyond whether a product says it has adjustable actuation. Check the range, adjustment steps, and whether settings can be assigned per key. Then decide which additional functions are useful for your games or applications:

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Rapid Trigger: Resets in response to upward key movement rather than requiring a return past a fixed reset point. It may suit inputs that involve repeated, fast presses.
- Analog output: Sends information about how far a key is pressed, which can support gamepad-style control in compatible games or applications.
- Multiple actions: Some implementations can assign more than one action to a key based on press depth or movement. Check the software and the use case rather than assuming every model supports the same behavior.
- SOCD or last-input priority: If you want simultaneous opposing-direction inputs handled according to a priority rule, verify the model’s behavior and check the current rules for each game and tournament you play. Those policies vary and are not established here.
Software is part of the feature set. Check how clearly it exposes per-key settings, profiles, Rapid Trigger, analog controls, and any multi-action behavior you intend to use. Advanced controls are only useful if you can configure and manage them comfortably.
Read polling-rate claims in context
Polling rate is a specification, not proof of a noticeable advantage. RTINGS lists up to 8000 Hz for the Wooting 80HE, and reports the same maximum for the 60HE v2. In its 60HE v2 review, it says the increase produces a measurable improvement that is unlikely to be noticeable in-game for most users. Compare measured latency and consistency when reliable testing is available; do not choose on the maximum polling figure alone.

Assess build and typing feel
Competitive features do not tell you whether a keyboard will be pleasant to use for hours. Compare case options and materials, key layout, keycaps, sound treatment, mounting feel, noise, and the stability of larger keys. Reviews can reveal trade-offs that specifications miss: RTINGS describes the 80HE’s gasket mount as fairly stiff. The 60HE v2 review covers standard and split-spacebar layouts and plastic or aluminum case options, so confirm the configuration you are considering rather than treating those options as included on every version.

A practical shortlist checklist
- Match layout to daily use. Decide whether you need a numpad, dedicated arrows, navigation keys, or function keys, and whether layers are acceptable.
- Confirm connection type. Check wired, wireless, or Bluetooth support against your actual setup.
- Inspect actuation controls. Verify the adjustment range and steps, and whether you can set values per key.
- Choose features by use case. Decide whether you need Rapid Trigger, analog output, multiple actions, or SOCD behavior; check applicable game rules for the last of these.
- Evaluate the software and physical feel. Look at profile handling and setup usability alongside layout options, materials, sound, mounting, and key stability.
- Put performance figures in perspective. Treat polling rate as one specification and look for measured behavior rather than assuming a higher maximum will feel faster.
