Its review reports using the PS5 version with Clone Hero on PC, but flags possible PC compatibility issues with the Xbox version. That is one reviewer’s report about particular configurations, not proof that every version works—or fails—with every game and computer. Check the current product listing and the specific game’s support before ordering.
Buy the version intended for your platform. Do not assume that a controller marketed for one console will work with another console or on PC just because it connects wirelessly or has a familiar shape. Used: Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments
A used original guitar can suit a legacy console or a PC rhythm-game setup, but the guitar body alone may not be a complete working controller. Check the listing for the exact model, console version, and the matching receiver or cable. The Clone Hero Wiki notes that refurbished or modified controllers can vary in quality and cautions that used originals on Amazon may be overpriced. Local second-hand listings may be worth comparing, but availability and asking prices change.
Inspect the fret buttons, strum bar, whammy bar, connectors, battery compartment, and visible wear where possible. Include the price of any missing required accessory in your comparison; a low listing price is not a bargain if the receiver or adapter needed to use the guitar costs extra.

Check the connection and every required accessory
Identify how the specific guitar connects: wired USB, a console-specific wireless receiver, Bluetooth, or a separate adapter. A wireless guitar may require its original or model-matched receiver. Receivers that look alike are not necessarily interchangeable; the Clone Hero receiver and dongle reference maps receivers to guitar models and records incompatibilities.
For example, that reference says an Xbox 360 receiver works with Xbox 360 five-fret Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments, but not Rock Band 4 or Guitar Hero Live guitars. For Rock Band 4 instruments on PlayStation 4, Epic Games Support distinguishes newer Bluetooth pairing from older instruments that need the original adapter. Its instruction is explicit: “Legacy controllers require the original adapter.” Follow the steps for the specific instrument in Epic’s PS4 syncing guide; do not assume a newer pairing method applies to every Rock Band 4 controller.
- Wireless receiver or dongle, if the model requires one
- Original or suitable breakaway cable, where applicable
- USB cable, batteries, and any required adapter
- Any setup software or running mapper needed for the chosen game and platform
Compare the full setup, not just the guitar
Use a short checklist before paying. Compatibility is model-specific, and the cheapest instrument is not necessarily the least expensive setup once missing parts are included.
