Choose a GPU cloud provider by matching the service to your workload, confirming the model fits the available GPU memory, and comparing the full cost and capacity for the exact region and configuration you need. There is no established universal winner: the right choice for bursty inference may be a poor fit for an always-on endpoint or a distributed training job.
Start with the workload you need to run
Different GPU services solve different problems. Decide whether you are running an interactive experiment, an API that receives uneven traffic, a persistent inference endpoint, fine-tuning, batch processing, or distributed pretraining. That choice affects whether you need a managed service, a single dedicated machine, or a multi-node cluster.
Bursty API inference
If requests arrive intermittently, a managed or serverless service may avoid paying for an idle dedicated machine. Check how it handles cold starts, concurrency, scale limits, and whether the model remains loaded between requests.
Persistent inference or development
A dedicated VM or pod can offer a more direct environment for a continuously running model, custom serving stack, or hands-on development. Confirm how attached storage behaves after a restart or replacement.

Fine-tuning and batch jobs
These workloads may use a single GPU or several, depending on model size, precision, sequence length, and throughput goals. For jobs that can tolerate interruption, compare interruptible capacity only after accounting for checkpointing and restart costs.
Distributed training
For jobs spanning multiple GPUs or machines, interconnect and network performance matter alongside GPU count and memory. A machine with several accelerators is not interchangeable with the same nominal memory split across loosely connected instances.
Work out whether the model fits before comparing rates
Record the model’s parameter count, inference or training precision, context length, expected concurrency, and serving framework. Then check GPU memory per device, GPU count, host RAM, storage, and the hardware communication paths.

A rough lower bound for the weights alone is the number of parameters multiplied by the bytes used to store each parameter. That estimate is not the full runtime requirement: context/KV cache, temporary activations, framework overhead, and concurrent requests also consume memory. Use the target runtime’s actual memory behavior as the final fit check rather than treating the weights estimate as a capacity guarantee.
Compare per-GPU memory as well as aggregate memory. Several GPUs do not automatically become one seamless memory pool; the model and software must support partitioning or distribution, and moving data between devices has a cost. Host memory is separate from GPU memory and cannot substitute for VRAM when model tensors need to reside on the accelerator.
For multi-GPU or multi-node work, examine interconnect topology and bandwidth. These determine how efficiently devices exchange data, particularly during distributed training. Provider specifications describe the offered hardware, not independently measured model performance.

Compare the providers by the shape of their offering
The options below illustrate different service categories, not a performance or price ranking. GPU catalogs, regional availability, and commercial terms change; verify the exact configuration and quote before choosing.
| Provider | Relevant offering and published details | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 | AWS documents P5 instances with up to eight H100 GPUs and 640 GB aggregate HBM3, and P5e/P5en with up to eight H200 GPUs and 1,128 GB aggregate HBM3e. Its specifications describe up to 900 GB/s NVSwitch interconnect; P5/P5e networking includes EFA up to 3,200 Gbps. AWS Capacity Blocks can reserve supported accelerated instances for a future start date. | Confirm the instance family, region, account quota, present capacity, and reservation terms. These specifications do not establish that a configuration is cheapest or immediately available to every account. |
| Lambda | Lambda’s on-demand documentation describes Linux GPU-backed VMs and lists B200, GH200, and H100 among the GPU types. Its inventory is labeled “As of December 2025.” | Check current GPU inventory and the target region: Lambda says each instance is tied to a geographical region. |
| Google Cloud Compute Engine | Google documents accelerator-optimized families across Blackwell, Hopper, and earlier generations, with GPU, memory, and network configurations. Some top-end shapes require capacity reservation or other provisioning options. | Check the specific machine type, zone, quota, and provisioning requirements. GPU devices are available only in selected zones. |
| Google Cloud Run | For managed serving, documented GPU options include L4 with 24 GB VRAM and RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell with 96 GB VRAM. Google documents one GPU per service instance, scale-to-zero behavior, and approximate five-second instance starts for the supported GPU options. | Check minimum CPU and RAM requirements and whether the one-GPU-per-instance model suits the service. This is a serving option, not a replacement for an eight-GPU distributed training node. |
| Runpod | Runpod separates dedicated Pods, Serverless API inference, and multi-node Clusters. Its pricing page was updated September 27, 2026; the company says reserved capacity and contract pricing are handled through enterprise sales. | Compare the billing model and capacity terms for the workload rather than treating a per-hour figure as the full deployment cost. |
| CoreWeave | CoreWeave’s official pricing page separates compute and inference pricing sections for AI workloads; a directly aligned configuration and rate is not established here. | Use the current calculator or request a quote for the precise configuration instead of inferring a comparable rate. |
Verify that you can actually get the capacity
A catalog listing is not proof that the GPU shape can be created when and where you need it. Check these items for your target dates:
- Region and zone: Make sure the required GPU is offered in the location that meets your data and latency needs.
- Quota: Confirm your account is approved for the required GPU count and instance family.
- Live availability: Attempt to provision the intended shape, or get confirmation through the provider’s capacity process.
- Reservations and lead time: Some large configurations require advance reservation or special provisioning. AWS Capacity Blocks, for example, support reserving certain accelerated instances for a future start; Google documents reservation or other provisioning requirements for some top-end shapes.
Do not plan a production launch around a region or machine type until the provider confirms the path to capacity.

Compare total cost, not a GPU headline rate
Normalize the comparison to the same workload and operating assumptions. Include the GPU and host machine, region, storage, network and data transfer, expected utilization, idle time, retries, and any billing commitment. For a managed inference service, compare cost per useful output at the traffic pattern you expect, not just the rate while a GPU is actively processing.
Google Cloud explicitly charges for the machine type in addition to the GPU and provides a pricing calculator. Its GPU pricing page reports Spot discounts of 60–91% off corresponding on-demand prices for most machine types and GPUs; the rate depends on the product and can change dynamically, potentially up to every 30 days. Treat that as Google’s published pricing statement, not a cross-provider discount comparison or a guaranteed rate.
Runpod’s Pods, Serverless, and Clusters are different billing models, and CoreWeave separates compute and inference pricing. Compare the option that matches the way you will actually deploy. Without a chosen region, configuration, storage and network assumptions, utilization pattern, and current quote, provider rates cannot be normalized fairly.

Choose how much infrastructure management you want
Managed services can reduce provisioning work and avoid charging for an idle GPU when they scale down, but they impose a service model and configuration limits. Dedicated VMs and pods give you a more direct compute environment; clusters support distributed jobs but add coordination and operations work.
Before production, establish the details that affect recovery and day-to-day operation:
- Whether model files and checkpoints persist across restarts or instance replacement.
- How jobs are queued, retried, and resumed after an interruption.
- What monitoring and logs are available for GPU use, latency, and failures.
- How data location and access controls fit your requirements.
- What support response and service-level commitments apply to your account and capacity.
Official provider descriptions do not establish a neutral provider-by-provider reliability comparison. Review current contractual service levels and support terms, then test failure recovery on the configuration you intend to use.
Run a workload-shaped trial before committing
Test the same model, precision, context length, batch size, concurrency, and serving stack you expect to run. Measure:

- Cost per useful output at realistic utilization, including idle periods.
- Cold-start time and behavior as demand rises or falls.
- Failure recovery, including whether work resumes from a checkpoint.
- Data-transfer time and charges for loading weights, checkpoints, or outputs.
Repeat the test in the intended region and service tier. Provider specifications can narrow the shortlist, but only a workload-specific test can show whether a particular setup meets your latency, throughput, and cost targets.
