Choose a target resolution and graphics quality first, then compare gaming PCs using Red Dead Redemption 2 results measured at those same settings. Rockstar’s recommended PC specifications are a compatibility baseline, not a promise of 100 FPS. Historical tests show that performance changes sharply with resolution and settings, but they cannot identify a guaranteed 100+ FPS PC to buy in 2026. Check the actual PC with RDR2’s built-in benchmark before settling on a configuration.
What does “above 100 FPS” mean for your setup?
A PC that exceeds 100 FPS at 1080p with adjusted settings may not do so at 1440p, 4K, or with every graphics option maximized. Decide what you want to preserve—resolution, visual quality, or frame rate—before comparing hardware. For a fair comparison, a result should identify the resolution, graphics settings, upscaling, benchmark scene or gameplay sequence, and whether FPS is an average, minimum, or peak.
When comparing two PCs, record the exact graphics card and VRAM, processor, installed memory, and the conditions behind any quoted RDR2 result. GPU choice is central in the cited tests, but Rockstar’s requirements alone do not establish that a particular CPU and memory configuration will deliver a high frame rate.
Why Rockstar’s recommended specs are not a 100 FPS recommendation
Rockstar’s PC requirements page, last updated April 30, 2024, lists the following minimum and recommended specifications. It does not attach a frame-rate target to the recommended tier, and it notes that requirements may change with downloadable content or programming changes. See Rockstar’s system requirements.

| Tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics card | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-6300 | 8 GB | GeForce GTX 770 2 GB or Radeon R9 280 3 GB | 150 GB |
| Recommended | Intel Core i7-4770K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X | 12 GB | GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or Radeon RX 480 4 GB | 150 GB |
Use these figures to check whether a PC meets Rockstar’s stated baseline, not to predict 100+ FPS. A seller’s claim that a PC “meets recommended specs” does not answer how it performs at your chosen resolution or quality settings.
What historical benchmarks can—and cannot—tell you
Available model-specific results are from RDR2’s PC launch period. They illustrate how demanding higher resolutions and quality targets can be, but they are not a current shortlist of graphics cards and should not be extrapolated into a 2026 buying recommendation.

| Source and test context | Reported result | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA, 2019; built-in benchmark | RTX 2060 for 60+ FPS at 1080p High | Historical vendor guidance for 60+, not 100 FPS. |
| NVIDIA, 2019; built-in benchmark | RTX 2070 SUPER for over 60 FPS at 1440p High | Historical vendor guidance for 60+, not 100 FPS. |
| NVIDIA, 2019; high-fidelity 4K target | RTX 2080 Ti for 60 FPS | NVIDIA also described upscaling from lower render resolutions as an option for High settings; this is not a native-resolution 100 FPS result. |
| TechSpot, 2019; DX12, manually configured High options, in-game Colter scene; Core i9-9900K at 5 GHz and 16 GB DDR4-3400 | RTX 2080 Ti exceeded 100 FPS at 1080p | A result specific to that test setup and scene, not a guarantee for another PC. |
| TechSpot, 2019; 1440p, manually configured lower quality than maximum | Vega 64, RTX 2060 Super, or RTX 2070 class averaged around 60 FPS | Shows why resolution and settings must accompany any GPU comparison. |
NVIDIA’s vendor results and TechSpot’s independent testing differ in methodology and conditions, so treat them as separate historical reference points rather than directly comparable rankings. NVIDIA’s 2019 recommendations and TechSpot’s 2019 benchmark document those specific results.
How to verify a PC with RDR2’s benchmark
- Set your intended resolution and graphics options in the game. Note any changes from a preset, and whether upscaling is enabled.
- Open Settings > Graphics > Run Benchmark Test and run the benchmark. Rockstar recommends repeating it while adjusting options to find a suitable balance of frame rate and image quality. Read Rockstar’s graphics performance tuning guidance.
- Compare results only when the resolution, settings, upscaling, and reported FPS statistic match. If a seller or reviewer provides only a GPU name without test conditions, the figure is not enough to establish that the PC will meet your target.
- If the result falls short, lower demanding settings in measured steps and benchmark again. Keep a record of the final configuration so you know which trade-offs produced the result.
Settings worth testing first
Rockstar names MSAA, reflections, water, and volumetric quality among the first options to consider adjusting; their effects depend on the system. PC Gamer’s historical settings analysis also identifies reflections and volumetrics as substantial frame-rate levers in its tests. It reports that 4x MSAA reduced performance by more than 25% in its tested setup—a publication-specific result, not a universal penalty. See PC Gamer’s settings guide.

Presets can configure individual options differently depending on the GPU, so reporting the precise settings changed is more useful than saying only “High” or “Ultra.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to assess a specific gaming PC before buying
- Match the test to your target: A 1080p result does not establish performance at 1440p or 4K.
- Inspect the graphics card and VRAM: Confirm the exact model and memory capacity, rather than relying on a broad product-family label.
- Check the processor and installed memory: Record the exact parts; the listed Rockstar baseline does not prove suitability for a high-frame-rate goal.
- Ask for the test conditions: Look for resolution, precise settings, upscaling, graphics API, scene or built-in benchmark, and average/minimum/peak FPS.
- Separate a PC’s claimed performance from verified results: No current 2026 PC model or directly comparable contemporary GPU benchmark is established here. Verify the exact configuration you are considering rather than treating a historical GPU result as a guarantee.
If pursuing more than 100 FPS, also ensure your monitor’s resolution matches the target you tested and that it supports a refresh rate suited to the frame rate. A higher-refresh display cannot make a PC render frames faster.
