Check how comfortable the cover screen is for everyday use, how your usual video fits on the inner screen, whether your app pair works well side by side, and what conditions sit behind each battery figure.
Start with the way you will use both screens
A foldable is two displays joined in one device: a cover screen for closed-phone use and a larger inner screen when opened. You may stream on either, so assess both rather than treating the inner display as the only one that matters.
For example, Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold7 with an 8.0-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover screen. Those are diagonal measurements, not a guarantee that video will look best on that model: aspect ratio, the content format, and the placement of playback controls all affect the experience. Samsung’s announcement also notes that battery life varies with network environment, usage patterns, and other factors.
How to compare streaming comfort
Try the cover screen as a regular phone
Use the closed phone for the tasks you would normally do one-handed: read messages, type a short reply, browse, and open your streaming app. Pay attention to reachability and typing comfort, not just the screen diagonal. If the cover screen feels awkward for routine use, you may find yourself opening the device more often than expected.

Check your actual video on the inner screen
Play a show or clip you know on the inner display. Try full-screen playback, then bring up the timeline, subtitles, and other controls. Different screen proportions can leave more or less unused space around a video, so a larger diagonal alone does not tell you how much of the panel your content will occupy or how the controls will feel.
When comparing models, use the same video and app settings on each. Consider whether you prefer a broad view for watching, a compact setup that is easy to hold, or room to keep playback visible while using another app.
Check multitasking with your real app pair
Screen area helps, but the software determines how useful that area is. Choose the two apps you expect to use together—for example, video and messages—and test whether both can remain open, whether their sizes can be adjusted, and whether switching focus is straightforward. An app may not make good use of a large panel even when the hardware has room for it.
Google says Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s Split Screen lets users run two apps at once and adjust each app’s size. Treat that as a feature to verify with your own apps rather than a promise that every app pairing will behave equally well. Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold announcement also describes a Pixelsnap ring stand for hands-free streaming. If a stand matters to you, check fit with the exact phone and case, including clearance around the hinge.

How to judge battery-life claims
Battery figures are useful only when you know what they describe. Manufacturer estimates, special power-saving modes, and independent playback tests are different kinds of evidence; none should be treated as a guaranteed daily runtime or a directly comparable cross-brand result.
- Manufacturer estimate: Google lists up to 30+ hours for Pixel 10 Pro Fold in its 2025 launch materials. Keep the “up to” qualification and do not read this as a standardized streaming test. Google’s hardware specifications explain the conditions attached to its battery estimates, including a stated mix of inner- and outer-screen use: Pixel phone hardware specifications.
- Special power-saving mode: Google lists up to 84 hours with Extreme Battery Saver for the applicable model on its hardware specification page. That figure describes a special mode, not ordinary video streaming; check the page’s footnote and exact model before relying on it.
- Independent playback test: Android Central’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold review reports video-playback observations separately for the inner and cover screens under its stated setup. Use those as results from that review’s method, not as a promise of how long your own phone will last or a direct comparison with a differently tested model: Android Central’s review.
Battery use changes with the display in use, brightness, network conditions, apps, audio, and how often you open the inner screen. When comparing test results, look for those details and whether the test is a manufacturer estimate or a measured playback session. Samsung likewise cautions that actual life varies with network, usage patterns, and other factors in its Galaxy Z Fold7 announcement.
Use this comparison checklist in the store or during a return window
- Try ordinary use closed. Check cover-screen reach, typing, and whether it works for your normal quick tasks.
- Play familiar content open. Compare the video image, controls, subtitles, and how the phone feels to hold.
- Run your two-app workflow. Open the actual pair, resize if supported, and see whether both remain practical.
- Compare battery evidence on equal terms. Note which screen was used, brightness, network, audio, workload, and whether the number is estimated or independently measured.
- Check accessories for the exact setup. Verify stand and charger compatibility with the model and case, including hinge clearance and charging support.
Samsung’s Fold7 dimensions and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold features are useful examples, not a complete head-to-head verdict. Samsung Business Insights’ Fold8 family guide covers a newer product family, but the available sources do not provide a standardized independent comparison of current models across streaming, multitasking, and battery life. Check regional availability, the exact variant, and current software behavior before buying.
