Measure your completed LEGO model in the orientation you plan to display it, then compare its full footprint and height with a case’s usable interior dimensions. Include overhangs, stands, foliage, sails, antennas, and other protruding pieces; leave enough clearance to place and remove the build without catching or stressing it.
Measure the completed build before shopping
“Large LEGO set” is not a standard case size. Fit depends on the assembled model and the space you have available, not just the set’s name or box dimensions.
- Choose the display orientation. A model that fits one way may not fit after rotating it. Note the intended front and any parts that extend beyond the main body.
- Measure width, depth, and height. Measure the finished build, including its base or stand and protruding details such as wings, foliage, sails, and antennas.
- Allow access clearance. The case should have extra room to get the model in and out without scraping it. For cabinets, check the door opening as well as the interior shelf dimensions.
- Compare against usable interior dimensions. Do not treat a case or cabinet’s outside measurements as its interior capacity. Check that the build fits along all three axes in the planned orientation.
Choose between a set-specific case and a cabinet
A case made for one LEGO set
A dedicated case can simplify the search if it is made for your exact set number. Wicked Brick says it offers cases and stands designed for individual LEGO set numbers, as well as broader display solutions, and describes its cases as acrylic with dust protection. These are maker claims, not independent tests of dust sealing. Check the current listing for your set, its internal dimensions, assembly details, and availability in your region before buying: Wicked Brick display cases.
A set-specific listing is not proof of fit for every build or configuration. Confirm that the case accommodates your assembled model, including any alternate orientation, stand, or add-on pieces.

A glass-door bookcase or cabinet
A cabinet is worth considering when you want to display several builds or use the surrounding space for other items. IKEA’s US BILLY listing gives overall dimensions of 31.5 inches wide × 11.75 inches deep × 79.5 inches high and a maximum shelf load of 66 lb. These are the listed exterior dimensions and shelf-load figure; they do not establish the usable interior dimensions or shelf spacing for a particular configuration. Check the selected unit’s usable depth, shelf spacing, and applicable shelf rating against your model. IKEA describes glass-door storage as keeping items free from dust while visible, but that description is not a verified airtight-seal claim. See the IKEA US BILLY product listing.
IKEA warns that the unit can tip and must be securely anchored with suitable screws and plugs. Follow the safety instructions for the exact configuration. The listing also warns that damaged edges or scratched glass can crack or break, and advises avoiding impacts from the side.

Compare the options that affect fit and protection

Do not mistake a smaller display case for a large-set solution
The LEGO Shop US Play and Display Case – Blue listing (product 5006157) gives dimensions of over 7.5 inches high × 15.5 inches wide × 5.5 inches deep. Those product measurements do not establish that it will fit a large completed build. Compare its stated dimensions with your model rather than assuming the LEGO branding means it suits every set: LEGO Shop US Play and Display Case – Blue.

The cited product information does not provide verified UV-transmission or UV-protection ratings for these options, and no independent dust-sealing tests are established. Acrylic or glass by itself is not evidence of UV protection, and a dust-protection description is not proof that a case is airtight. If UV exposure is a concern, look for a published rating for the exact product rather than inferring performance from the material.
