To change the launcher that opens when you go to the Home screen, set it as your Galaxy phone’s default Home app: Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Home app, then select the launcher. To change that launcher’s permissions, open Settings > Apps > [launcher] > Permissions and adjust each permission separately. These are separate settings.
Set a different launcher as the default Home app
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Choose default apps.
- Tap Home app.
- Select the launcher you want to use.
The labels may vary by Galaxy model, carrier, region, software version and installed apps. If your screen uses different wording, follow the equivalent Home app or default-app option shown on your device. Samsung’s support guidance for choosing a default app describes this route and notes that some Galaxy devices or carrier configurations may initially include only One UI Home. If you want another launcher, it must be installed and compatible with your device before it can appear as an option.
If your phone asks which Home app to use
If a chooser appears when you press the Home button, select your preferred launcher and tap Always to make it the default. Choose the one-time option if you only want to use that launcher for the current action.
If the prompt keeps returning, Samsung suggests checking whether the same issue occurs with One UI Home, restarting in Safe mode, clearing the app’s cache or data, and restarting the device. Clearing app data can affect that app’s stored settings, so consider the consequences before doing so. For third-party launcher-specific issues, consult the launcher’s provider.

Change a launcher’s permissions
- Open Settings and tap Apps.
- Find and tap the launcher.
- Tap Permissions.
- Review permissions under Allowed or Not allowed, tap the permission you want to change, then choose one of the options shown.
Depending on the permission, app and software version, options may include allowing access only while using the app, asking each time, allowing access, or denying it. Samsung’s guide to managing app permissions explains that denying a permission an app needs can make some features unavailable or prevent the app from working until access is restored. Consider which feature the permission supports before changing it.
Some Galaxy software versions also provide permission controls by category through Permission manager. Its location is not the same across every model and release, so use the route and labels available on your phone.

What to check before switching launchers
- Widgets: Samsung warns that widgets may disappear after changing the home interface; switching back may restore them. Check the result on your device and with your chosen launcher.
- Compatibility and features: Confirm that the launcher works with your Galaxy model and software and supports the home-screen features and widgets you rely on.
- Requested permissions: Review what the launcher requests and what each permission enables before granting or denying access.
- Troubleshooting support: For issues specific to a third-party launcher, check its developer’s instructions. Samsung does not compare or endorse particular third-party launchers in its default-app guidance.
Samsung notes that both default-app choices and permission settings can vary according to device, carrier, software version, installed apps, app and permission. The Home app choice determines which app handles the home-screen role; it does not grant or revoke the launcher’s individual permissions.
