Choose a content calendar tool that shows the full campaign window and brings channels, deliverables, owners, dates, approvals and goals into one workable view—not just a list of publish dates. For holiday planning, the best fit depends on how your team hands work off and whether the calendar can connect to the tools you already use.

Start with the campaign workflow

Before comparing products, map the work your holiday campaigns actually require. Asana defines a marketing calendar as a shared plan that maps campaigns, content, email sends, social posts and events to dates, owners and channels. Its marketing calendar guide also recommends planning seasonal promotions and time-sensitive work well in advance.

  • List the channels and deliverables your team uses, such as email, social, site content, paid media or events.
  • Identify an accountable owner for every task, plus the people who review or approve it.
  • Record the full start and end window for each campaign, not only its launch or send date.
  • Include the campaign goal and link to relevant assets or briefs.
  • Note which tools already manage assets, publishing and team communication.

A useful calendar makes the planning, asset creation, review, approval, scheduling, launch and post-campaign reporting visible as needed. If those stages live in separate tools, check whether the calendar can connect them or at least link to them clearly.

Trial a realistic holiday campaign

Do not judge a tool by an empty demo board. Use a trial to model a campaign your team could actually run. This is a practical evaluation method, not a report of product testing.

  1. Create one campaign with a clear name, goal and start/end window.
  2. Add the channels and deliverables your team genuinely uses. For example, add email, social, site content and paid media only if they are part of your workflow.
  3. Assign owners and add the review and approval steps that must happen before launch.
  4. Move a deadline and check whether dependent work and the campaign view reflect the change clearly.
  5. Review the calendar by campaign, channel, owner or status if those views are available. Look for missing owners, date conflicts and gaps between review and launch.
  6. Confirm whether the tool publishes directly to your required channels or relies on integrations, and verify the plan limits that apply.

Make the choice based on visibility and handoffs

A campaign calendar is useful only if it helps the team see what is happening and who must act next. Prefer a view that exposes the whole campaign window, makes ownership unmistakable and lets people follow work through review and launch. A dedicated marketing calendar may suit teams that want campaign planning alongside publishing; a project-management board may be enough when flexible task tracking is the priority. A paper planner is a lightweight alternative for an individual, not a substitute for shared approvals or publishing workflows.

Vendor feature lists and prices can change. Before committing, verify current pricing and billing terms, user or profile limits, guest access, export options, approval controls and support for the channels your team actually uses.
