Choose Safari if you want Apple-centered continuity; choose Chrome if your browsing data and workflow already revolve around a Google Account. Before deciding, confirm that the sync, profiles, extensions, and privacy controls you need work on both your iPhone and Mac. You can also set a browser other than Safari to open web links on iPhone.
Start with the account ecosystem you already use
The practical difference is where your browser data and daily workflow are centered. Apple describes Safari syncing passwords, bookmarks, history, and tabs across Apple devices, with Handoff for passing Safari activity between nearby devices. Google says Chrome Sync can save bookmarks, history, open tabs, passwords, and settings to a Google Account for use on other devices. These are vendor-described features, not an independent comparison of reliability or privacy.
| Your priority | A sensible starting point | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Continuity among Apple devices | Safari; Apple lists passwords, bookmarks, history, tabs, and Handoff. | That you are signed into the Apple Account you use on both devices, have Safari enabled in iCloud, and are comfortable with your password workflow. Apple’s Safari iCloud setup guide. |
| Browser data and workflow tied to Google | Chrome; Google lists bookmarks, history, open tabs, passwords, and settings through Chrome Sync. | That Chrome is signed into the intended Google Account and that you have selected the categories you want synced. Google’s Chrome Sync guide. |
A reader might describe the goal as “one browser on Mac and iOS with solid sync” or a way to “separate work gmail from personal.” Those phrases capture useful questions, but come from one public forum post, not a survey of browser users.
Set the browser that opens links on iPhone
On supported iPhones, Apple’s current route is Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Browser App. Choose an installed browser from the list. Google’s setup guidance says Chrome can be set as the iPhone default on iOS 14 or later.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Apple says users can change the app used to open web links, but choice-screen prompts and some default-app features vary by region and iOS state. If the menu or an expected prompt is missing, check the installed browser and current iOS settings rather than assuming the same prompt appears everywhere. See Apple’s default-app instructions and Google’s instructions for setting Chrome as the default on iPhone.
Decide whether you need separate browsing profiles
Safari profiles can keep history, cookies, website data, extensions, Tab Groups, and favorites separate. This can help distinguish work and personal browsing without switching browsers. A site may ask you to sign in again in a new profile because its cookies and website data are separate.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Safari profiles sync across supported Apple devices when they use Safari 17 or later, are signed into the same Apple Account, and have Safari enabled in iCloud. Confirm that this is the kind of separation you need and that your Mac and iPhone meet those requirements. Apple explains the setup and behavior in its Safari profiles guide.
Check extension availability and permissions
Safari supports extensions on iPhone and Mac. Examples include content blockers and tools that add features from other apps. Some extensions are available on both platforms, but cross-device use depends on the extension supporting each platform and on account and settings requirements. Check the listing for the exact extension you need instead of assuming it exists everywhere.

- Review what an extension can access before enabling it. Extensions may be able to read or modify webpage content.
- Check whether it is enabled for the profile and sites where you intend to use it.
- On Mac, Apple says Mac App Store extensions are reviewed, signed, hosted by Apple, and kept up to date automatically when automatic updates are selected. Store review is not a guarantee that every extension is safe or private.
Apple’s guides cover Safari extensions on iPhone and Safari extensions on Mac, including permissions and setup.
Compare privacy controls, not broad labels
Safari’s iPhone guidance says Prevent Cross-Site Tracking limits third-party cookies and data by default. In Private Browsing, extensions with access to browsing data are turned off automatically unless you enable them. Those are specific controls; they do not establish that one browser is universally more private for every use.

- European Union: Apple says alternative browser engines may be used by eligible apps distributed solely in the EU. Developers need the Web Browser Engine Entitlement and must meet ongoing security and privacy requirements.
- Japan: Apple says eligible browser apps may use alternative engines for users in Japan starting with iOS 26.2.
Availability depends on country, iOS version, app distribution, and developer eligibility. Check Apple’s current EU alternative browser engine policy and Japan policy before treating this as a deciding factor.
