Yes, your game may be eligible for the 2027 BAFTA Games Awards if it is released—or is planned for release—in the UK between 15 November 2025 and 19 November 2026. The game does not have to be British, but an entrant needs approval from the relevant rights holder. The deadline depends on the UK release date: for games releasing from 1 August through 19 November 2026, the entry must be fully submitted and paid for by 6 November 2026. The earlier deadline, 18 September 2026, has passed for games released through 31 July.

BAFTA’s 2027 Games Awards rules control eligibility; its entry FAQ adds plain-language guidance. Check both before submitting, particularly if your title is a remake, DLC, early-access release, or an older live game.

Who can enter the BAFTA Games Awards?

A developer, publisher, or another person involved in a game’s production or promotion can enter, provided they have approval from the relevant rights holder. The entrant need not be a UK company, and the game need not be made in Britain: for ordinary eligibility, the key geographic test is whether it is released in the UK during the qualifying period.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the 2027 awards, that period runs from 15 November 2025 through 19 November 2026. A planned UK release within those dates can also qualify, so a game does not necessarily have to be available before its entry is submitted. The UK release window is not the same as the British Game test: that category has additional requirements for where creative control and overall development take place.

Before starting, confirm who holds the relevant rights and get permission to submit. BAFTA checks entries manually, and an entry is not complete just because someone has filled in the first part of the online form.

Which deadline applies to my game?

BAFTA divides the 2027 deadline by the game’s UK release date. As of 5 November 2026, the 6 November deadline is imminent for the later release cohort; the September deadline for the earlier cohort has already passed.

UK release date Entry deadline Status on 5 November 2026
15 November 2025–31 July 2026 18 September 2026 Passed
1 August–19 November 2026 6 November 2026 Upcoming; submit and pay by this date

For the later cohort, both entry stages must be submitted and the fee paid by the deadline. BAFTA warns that incomplete or unpaid entries will be unsubmitted when the site closes. If your game’s timing is unusual, consult the live rulebook rather than assuming the deadline from a launch announcement or a non-UK release date.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The ceremony is scheduled for 14 April 2027. That date is useful for planning, but it does not extend the entry window or deadline.

How does the entry process work?

Submitting an entry takes two stages. Stage One collects the basic entry information; Stage Two must also be completed, approved, and paid for before the applicable deadline.

  1. Confirm eligibility and permission. Check the UK release window, the title-specific exceptions below, and the rights holder’s approval.
  2. Complete Stage One. BAFTA requests information such as the game title, synopsis, key art, selected categories, and where voters can access the game. You may provide access codes at this point.
  3. Complete Stage Two. Supply the additional entry details and any category-specific statements or materials required by the rules.
  4. Obtain approval and pay. Make sure the entry has been approved and the applicable fee paid by the cohort deadline. Stage One alone does not secure an entry.
  5. Prepare access for consideration. Give voters an eligible way to play the game, and plan for any extra codes or specialised hardware BAFTA may request later.

BAFTA manually checks every entry. A complete, paid submission is still subject to its rules, so selecting a category is not a substitute for verifying that the game and the claimed achievement qualify.

What are the entry fees?

The standard fee covers up to four eligible categories chosen by the entrant. Additional eligible categories cost extra; Best Game and, when applicable, British Game are considered without an added category fee. Performance-category submissions also have no additional category fee.

BAFTA 2027 Games Awards fees (checked Nov 2026)
Entry or category Fee shown in BAFTA’s rules What it covers
Standard game entry £475 plus VAT (£570 as printed) Up to four eligible entrant-chosen categories
Each additional eligible category £150 plus VAT (£180 as printed) One category beyond the four covered by the standard fee
Evolving Game £300 plus VAT (£350 as printed) Separate Evolving Game entry

There is a discrepancy in BAFTA’s displayed Evolving Game total: the printed £350 VAT-inclusive amount does not match the arithmetic implied by the other amounts shown with 20% VAT. The rules and FAQ both display £300 plus VAT (£350), so do not silently substitute a different total; ask BAFTA to confirm the amount payable.

Qualifying studios or developers with 1–20 employees and no publisher financial backing or creative control can appeal for a 25% fee reduction. The reduction is not automatic: BAFTA requires supporting documentation, and the entrant must meet the stated conditions. Do not assume that a small team qualifies solely because of its headcount.

Can I enter a remake, remaster, DLC, or early-access game?

Not necessarily. BAFTA treats these cases differently, so a title’s label alone does not settle eligibility.

Game type or history 2027 rule to apply
Previously entered title Cannot be re-entered, except in Evolving Game.
Remaster Ineligible unless the original game was released before 2004.
Remake Cannot enter Best Game or British Game. It may enter Technical Achievement, performance, or specified craft categories if it demonstrates significant originality in the relevant area.
DLC Not treated as a new standalone game. It may qualify for performance or Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, or Music if the relevant area demonstrates 100% originality. Narrative is not included in this DLC craft exception.
Early-access game Generally ineligible, although the Games Committee may allow an appeal at its discretion. Contact BAFTA about the circumstances.
Older game with substantial updates Consider Evolving Game if it meets the update and future-roadmap requirements; it cannot be entered in other categories.

A remake’s exception is not a blanket route into every craft category: the relevant achievement must meet the originality test. For DLC, BAFTA’s threshold is stricter and specifically stated as 100% originality in the area being entered. DLC released in the qualifying period may also be discussed in an Evolving Game supporting statement, but that does not make it a new standalone game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For Evolving Game, BAFTA looks for substantial updates during the relevant period and a substantial future roadmap. The entry requires three supporting statements, each up to 500 words, covering updates and communication, community activity, and the roadmap. Evolving Game has its own entry fee and is not a way to enter the same title in the other categories.

What makes a game eligible for British Game?

British Game adds a UK development and creative-control test to the ordinary release rules. A British studio must lead both creative control and overall development, and the majority of each must be in the UK.

That means a UK release, British ownership, or a UK-based publisher alone is not enough to establish British Game eligibility. Consider who actually led the creative decisions and overall development, and where the majority of that work took place. BAFTA requires entrants to complete a bullying and harassment questionnaire for this category; the questionnaire is not shown to voters and does not affect eligibility.

Best Game automatically considers eligible entries, apart from remakes, DLC, and Evolving Game. British Game is also considered without an added category fee where the title qualifies. Check the full category rules rather than treating either category as an extra box that every submitted game can enter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How should I choose other categories?

Match the category to the achievement and its evidence, not just to the game’s genre or the people who worked on it. Category rules can differ by release history, age rating, originality, UK development control, update history, and eligible contributors.

  • Debut Game: concerns a studio’s or individual’s first title released within the qualifying period.
  • Family: limited to games rated PEGI 12 or below.
  • Game Beyond Entertainment: requires a beyond-entertainment experience to be a primary aim and three supporting statements, each up to 500 words.
  • Craft categories: include Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Game Design, Music, Narrative, New Intellectual Property, and Technical Achievement. Each has its own evidence and contributor rules.
  • Performance: requires a headshot, an individual statement, and an in-game supporting reel of one to six clips, each under two minutes. Studio footage and added promotional material are not accepted in that reel.

For relevant categories, entrants identify up to three significant creative contributors or choose development-team representatives under BAFTA’s rules. Verify the eligible contributor definition for the individual category before naming people. The fact that someone worked on a game does not, on its own, establish that they are eligible to be credited in every category.

What access do voters and juries need?

BAFTA encourages entrants to make games available through eligible Steam or Epic Games Store bundles or codes. At entry, provide a clear way for voters to access the game. If an entry is longlisted for a jury category, BAFTA may request up to 15 codes per game per category by 16 December 2026.

The entrant is responsible for providing any additional hardware needed for jury consideration. This matters for titles that rely on specialised equipment, such as VR or AR hardware; BAFTA does not require a headset for ordinary entries, and it does not recommend a particular model. Check that the game and any required hardware are compatible before planning access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the 2027 awards, Best Game, British Game, and Evolving Game proceed through member voting, while other longlisted categories proceed to juries. BAFTA says Evolving Game has moved to membership voting across all rounds for 2027. The access plan should therefore suit the relevant voting or jury route, and should not assume that a public store listing alone will provide everything a jury needs.

What promotion is allowed after entry?

Entrants must not directly lobby voters. BAFTA permits certain For Your Consideration (FYC) events only for entrants who cannot offer BAFTA View access or for titles that rely exclusively on specialised hardware, such as VR or AR.

Those events are limited to 11 August–13 November 2026, with a maximum of four per game, and additional invitation rules apply. Merchandise and physical promotional materials are forbidden at FYC events. Do not treat a promotional event, gift, or direct appeal as a substitute for the permitted access route or as a way to influence voters.

Can a game made with AI tools be entered?

BAFTA’s rules do not establish a blanket ban on games developed with AI assistance, nor do they promise unconditional permission. The awards emphasise human creative achievement, and BAFTA may request credits and supporting materials explaining the human creativity and development behind a game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Describe contributions accurately and be prepared to substantiate them. Do not assume that using an AI tool automatically disqualifies a title—or that the presence of human contributors automatically resolves every question about the work entered. The specific achievement and the evidence for it still matter.

What should I confirm before submitting?

Use this final check to catch the errors most likely to invalidate or complicate an entry:

  • Is the game’s UK release—or planned UK release—between 15 November 2025 and 19 November 2026?
  • Does the relevant deadline match that UK release date, and will Stage Two and payment be complete by then?
  • Has the rights holder approved the entry?
  • Is the game previously entered, a remaster, remake, DLC, early-access title, or older evolving game—and have you applied that specific rule rather than the ordinary new-game test?
  • Do the categories match the game’s eligibility, the achievement claimed, and the required originality, contributor, and supporting-statement rules?
  • Can voters access the game, and can the entrant supply any requested codes and specialised hardware?

The 2027 ceremony is scheduled for 14 April 2027, but entry eligibility depends on the release window, category rules, complete submission, and deadline—not on the ceremony date. For the controlling details, refer to BAFTA’s live rulebook and entry FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people vote in the BAFTA Games Awards?

BAFTA’s 11 August 2026 announcement reported more than 1,700 experienced games-professional voting members. That is an approximate membership figure, not a guarantee that every member votes on every category.

Can voters see the British Game bullying and harassment questionnaire?

No. BAFTA says the questionnaire is not shown to voters and does not affect eligibility for the category. It is still a required part of entering British Game.

Does an entrant have to provide VR equipment for every BAFTA entry?

No. The hardware requirement concerns additional equipment needed for jury consideration, such as specialised VR or AR hardware. It is not a general requirement for games that can be accessed on ordinary supported platforms.
