To check a Switch 2 game’s version, highlight the game on the HOME Menu without opening it, press + or −, and read the number beneath the software title. You can also use this menu to check for an update.
Find a game’s version on Switch 2
- Go to the console’s HOME Menu.
- Highlight the game or application you want to check. Do not start it.
- Press the controller’s + or − button to open the software menu.
- Read the version number shown beneath the software title. Nintendo describes this location in its Switch 2 software update instructions.
The options shown in this menu can vary by application. Depending on the software, you may also see items such as Software Information, Software Update, Software Data, and Save Data Cloud. See Nintendo’s guide to accessing a software’s menu options.

Game version and system version are different
The number beneath a game’s title identifies that software’s version. It is not the console’s system menu version. To see the latter, open System Settings > System > System Update. Nintendo explains this separate location in its guide to determining the system menu version on Switch 2.
Check for a game update
If an update is available and the console is online, Switch 2 may prompt you to download it when you start the game. To check manually:
