Check the game’s live PlayStation Store or PlayStation Plus listing on the account you plan to use, then match its label to your membership. Monthly games are available across Essential, Extra, and Premium while your subscription is active; the Game Catalog requires Extra or Premium; and the Classics Catalog, selected game trials, and cloud-streaming benefit require Premium. A tier chart alone cannot confirm that a specific game is currently available or playable in your region.
Check the game’s listing before changing your membership
- Use the PlayStation account that will play the game. Open the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Plus area on your PS4 or PS5 and search for the title. Availability and interface details can vary by region, so verify the listing for your account.
- Identify the benefit or catalog. Look for whether the game is presented as a monthly game, a Game Catalog title, a Classics Catalog title, or a trial. Check whether the listing offers Download, Stream, or both.
- Compare the label with your active tier. Use the table below. If the game is absent, has a removal date, or offers a different play mode than you need, recheck its live listing before upgrading.
Sony’s support guidance says, “To download from the PlayStation Plus game catalog, you need to have the correct membership plan.” Sony’s catalog access guide also gives the console paths for finding catalog games.

Which tier includes each PlayStation Plus game benefit?

These are benefit-level rules, not a promise that every title is available to every member. Sony says Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles may have end dates, and the catalog changes. Check Sony’s current PlayStation Plus games information and the title’s live listing for availability. Catalog access is not ownership: it depends on an active membership and the game remaining available through the service.
Monthly game
Essential, Extra, and Premium include the monthly games benefit. Add an offered game to your library during its availability window; you can play it while your membership remains active. Monthly games are a separate benefit from the Game Catalog.

Game Catalog
Extra is the lowest tier that includes the Game Catalog; Premium includes it too. Essential alone does not. Sony’s support page states that an Extra member can access the Game Catalog and that Premium includes access to the Game Catalog as well as the Classics Catalog. Classics Catalog, trials, and streaming
These are Premium benefits, but check the individual listing: eligibility and play modes can differ. Some classic PS3 games are streaming-only, and not every title is streamable. Download eligibility does not automatically mean streaming is available, or vice versa.

Find the catalog on PS5 or PS4
On PS5
- From the Games home screen, open PlayStation Plus.
- Choose Benefits, then Game Catalog.
- Select a title and choose Download if the listing says it is available to you.
On PS4
- Open PlayStation Plus from the function screen.
- Select Game Catalog.
- Select an eligible title and choose Download.
Console menus can change. If the paths differ, search for the title in the PlayStation Store or Plus area and use the live listing’s benefit label and available action to verify access. Sony’s PS4 and PS5 catalog instructions explain the correct-membership requirement and how to locate games.
If you plan to stream the game
Confirm that the title’s listing offers Stream and that your device and region support streaming. Sony’s US support material lists a minimum connection speed of 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p. These are stated minimum requirements, not a performance guarantee; a game may still be unavailable to stream on a particular device or in a particular region. Keep game access separate from online multiplayer
A membership tier that unlocks a catalog game does not by itself determine whether that game’s online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. Sony lists online multiplayer among core benefits and notes that some games do not require a subscription for online play. Check the game’s own requirements; multiplayer eligibility is separate from the tier needed to download or stream a catalog title.
