Check the NBA 2K25 page for your exact platform, then compare its “available offline” list with 2K’s online-services status table and server-sunset notice. Play Now, MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM, 2KU/Learn 2K, MyWNBA, and The W are listed as offline modes, but features inside them that depend on 2K servers—such as Online Leagues, multiplayer, and community sharing—will stop working when service ends. MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available from January 1, 2027.
Check the exact platform listing first
- Identify your console and edition. For example, distinguish Xbox One from Xbox Series X|S and PS4 from PS5. Mode names and store descriptions can vary by platform and generation.
- Open that platform’s NBA 2K25 product page and find its offline-mode wording. The US Xbox One listing and US PlayStation Store Standard Edition listing identify modes available offline and say that other modes or features require an internet connection.
- Compare the mode name with 2K’s status table. 2K’s table uses names such as MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM; a platform listing may use MyLEAGUE or MyNBA. Treat differing names as a platform-label difference, not proof that the mode has different online requirements.
- Check whether the feature is explicitly online or server-dependent. “Online,” “multiplayer,” “Online Leagues,” and community sharing indicate reliance on online services. A mode being listed as offline does not make every feature within it offline.
- Check 2K’s sunset notice before relying on future access. The notice was updated October 2, 2026, and service schedules can change.
Which NBA 2K25 modes and features need a connection?

These distinctions are supported by 2K’s mode-status table, the cited Xbox One and PlayStation Store descriptions, and 2K’s launch announcement, which names MyCAREER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, The W Online, and Play Now Online as online features or bonus content requiring an internet connection and an online account. The launch announcement is general guidance; use the current listing for your platform to check its specific wording.
What changes when NBA 2K25 online services end?
As of October 7, 2026, 2K schedules NBA 2K25 online services through December 31, 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, multiplayer and online game modes will no longer be accessible; MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available; and Virtual Currency will no longer be earnable. The sunset notice says existing owners can still redownload the game and play offline modes. This does not preserve server-dependent features within those modes.
2K’s notice says the game is scheduled to be discontinued on December 31, 2026, and cease sale on October 30, 2026. These are scheduled dates, so check the official sunset notice for any updates. Buying or owning a copy does not extend online-service availability.
