Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo check whether your PC can run an open-world MMORPG, compare your computer’s specifications with the current official requirements for that exact game and platform. Check the operating system, CPU, graphics card and video memory, RAM, storage, DirectX support, and internet requirements—not just the CPU and GPU. Meeting minimum requirements is not a promise of a particular frame rate or graphics quality.
Start with the exact game and platform
There is no single hardware requirement for open-world MMORPGs. Requirements vary by title and platform, and publishers may revise them. Find the game’s official PC requirements page and confirm it applies to the version you intend to play. Note the date you checked it, then check again before buying or downloading.
If you are choosing a game, pick a specific title first. A game’s genre or name alone cannot tell you whether your PC is compatible; its current requirements and platform availability can.
Find your PC’s specifications
Collect the exact model names and capacities below. If you use a laptop, record its actual graphics hardware: some laptops have both integrated graphics and a dedicated GPU, and the model names can be easy to confuse.
#1 Best Overall
- Fearless ROG Design – The G700’s dual-glass chassis showcases iconic ROG design with the ROG Slash and Aura Sync RGB lighting. Its 58L capacity supports triple-slot GPUs.
- Unstoppable Power – Equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 265F processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and 1TB SSD PCIe 4.0 storage for seamless gaming and multitasking.
- Optimized Thermals – Stay cool with a quad-fan system, while dust filters and efficient airflow ensure long-term reliability.
- Advanced Connectivity – Game without lag with 2.5Gbps Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, and versatile ports. Dolby Atmos audio and AI noise cancellation enhance sound and communication.
- Ready for Upgrades – Designed with tool-less access, easily swap out components, ensuring future-proof performance for years to come.
- Operating system: Windows version and whether it is 64-bit, if the game specifies that.
- Processor: the full CPU model, not just “Intel” or “Ryzen.”
- Graphics: the full GPU model and dedicated video memory (VRAM), when listed. Integrated graphics may use some system RAM as shared memory.
- Memory: installed system RAM.
- Storage: the drive type, free space, and any required read speed. A game’s total storage requirement is not the same as the space currently free on your drive.
- Other requirements: DirectX version and an internet connection, including broadband if the publisher specifies it.
Use your operating system’s built-in system information or settings to identify hardware, and check the game publisher’s requirements for which details matter. Do not rely on a PC’s age, a seller’s “gaming” label, or a component brand alone.
Compare every requirement, not just the headline specs
Make a line-by-line comparison against both the minimum and recommended tiers. For each item, mark whether your PC meets it, falls short, or is unclear. The recommended tier is the more relevant comparison if you want the publisher’s recommended experience; minimum is a lower threshold, not a guarantee that the game will suit your preferred resolution, preset, or frame rate.

| What to compare | How to read the requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system and architecture | Check the specified Windows version and whether 64-bit is required. A matching processor does not compensate for an unsupported OS. |
| CPU | Compare the exact processor model. A near match or a newer model number is not automatically equivalent. |
| GPU and VRAM | Compare the exact graphics model and the stated video-memory capacity. Do not assume GPUs are equivalent because they share a brand or number. |
| RAM | Compare installed system memory with the stated amount. For integrated graphics, note that graphics may share system RAM. |
| Storage | Check both available space and drive type or read-speed requirements. Capacity alone may not satisfy a speed condition. |
| DirectX and internet | Confirm the listed DirectX support and that you can meet any broadband or other connection requirement. |
If you cannot tell whether your CPU or GPU is comparable to the listed model, look up the exact models in a reputable, current performance comparison. A “close” result is uncertain, not a confirmed pass. Also check whether the requirements page specifies a resolution, preset, or frame rate: without such a note, do not infer a precise performance target from the words minimum or recommended.

FINAL FANTASY XIV on Windows PC
Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY XIV requirements page lists Windows 11 64-bit for both PC tiers. Minimum requirements include an Intel Core i5-8400 or higher, at least 8 GB RAM, a GTX 970 4 GB or Radeon RX 480 4 GB or higher, at least 140 GB of hard-disk space, 1280×720, broadband, and DirectX 11. Recommended requirements include an Intel Core i7-9700 or higher, at least 16 GB RAM, an RTX 2060 6 GB or Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB or higher, an SSD with at least 140 GB, 1920×1080, broadband, and DirectX 11. Square Enix dates the PC requirements to July 17, 2025, and says they are subject to change.
Why the fine print matters
A separate Square Enix PC Steam requirements article illustrates how a publisher may tie a tier to a stated performance target. Its minimum tier specifies 60 FPS at 1280×720 on Low and 2 GB VRAM; its recommended tier specifies 60 FPS at 1920×1080 on Highest. The article also says 16 GB system RAM is required when running on an Intel GPU. These are publisher-stated targets and conditions, not an independent guarantee for every PC configuration.

Interpret the result against the experience you want
“Can run” can mean different things: launching the game, meeting minimum specifications, or playing at a preferred resolution and quality setting. Requirements alone cannot settle the last question unless the publisher gives a relevant performance target—and even a stated target should not be treated as a guarantee under every in-game situation.
- Every item meets the recommended tier: your PC matches the publisher’s recommended specifications, but the page may not promise performance beyond any explicitly stated target.
- Items meet minimum but not recommended: the system matches the listed lower tier, but the recommended experience is not established. Expect uncertainty about whether it will suit your preferred settings.
- An item is below minimum or unclear: compatibility is uncertain. Resolve the model or requirement before spending money or upgrading.
If your PC falls short, identify the specific gap
Do not buy an upgrade based only on a general “gaming PC” checklist. Identify the unmet requirement first, then verify that a replacement or addition is compatible with your computer’s motherboard, power supply, case, and other constraints where relevant.
- Not enough storage or insufficient read speed: check the game’s precise requirement and your drive’s interface, form factor, and available motherboard slot before considering an SSD. An SSD upgrade will not fix a CPU, GPU, OS, RAM, or network shortfall.
- CPU or GPU below the listed tier: compare the exact models and verify that an upgrade is supported by the rest of the PC before choosing one.
- Insufficient RAM: check the PC’s memory type, capacity limits, and available slots before adding memory.
- Unsupported operating system or DirectX: verify the PC can support the required software before assuming a component upgrade will help.
- Internet requirement unmet: a hardware change will not provide the broadband connection the game requires.
After checking the PC, revisit the official game page and platform listing. Requirements and availability can change, so an old compatibility answer may no longer apply.
