To check whether your exact Galaxy model is scheduled for a particular One UI release, compare its model number and country or carrier with Samsung’s schedule for that release. These are different checks: no update appearing today does not prove the phone is permanently ineligible.
Check whether an update is available now
- Open Settings and tap Software update. Some models may instead show System updates.
- Tap Download and install. Depending on the model or carrier, you may see another option, such as Check for system updates, Check for software updates, or Download now.
- If the phone offers an update, follow its on-screen instructions. Some carriers require Wi-Fi, and the phone may be unusable while the update installs.
The exact labels and steps can vary by model, carrier, and software version. Samsung’s Galaxy phone and tablet update instructions describe the manual check.
Find the exact model and installed software
On the phone, go to Settings > About phone > Software information. Some devices use About tablet instead. Note the model and the installed One UI version, Android version, and build information. The model is essential when checking a release schedule; the software details show what is currently installed.
Samsung Canada documents the same version-check path in its software-update guidance.

Check eligibility for a specific One UI release
- Open Samsung’s official schedule for the One UI release you want to check.
- Find your exact Galaxy model in the schedule. Do not assume that similarly named models, or different variants of a model, share the same status.
- Confirm that the page applies to your country and, where relevant, your carrier or network operator.
- Check the schedule’s update date. Samsung says timing, supported functions, and eligibility can vary by model, country, and operator, and the schedule may change.
For example, Samsung India’s One UI 8 schedule was last updated October 1, 2026. It is an India-specific schedule, not a global eligibility list or a universal release date. Samsung’s UK support page likewise explains that update timing can differ by location and carrier.
What it means if no update appears
A blank result from the Settings check means only that an update is not being offered through that check at that time. Samsung releases updates in stages, with timing varying by location and mobile carrier. Confirm your model and market-specific schedule, then check again later.

You can also use Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac to install an available update. Connect the phone to the computer with a compatible USB cable and follow Smart Switch’s prompts; Samsung’s instructions note that some computers may require an adapter. This is another way to install an available update, not a way to make an unsupported phone eligible.

Samsung’s 2022 announcement described up to four generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates for select Galaxy devices. Those are separate commitments: security-update years are not One UI upgrade generations. The announcement was limited to select devices and conditioned on hardware requirements; it is not a current, universal promise for every Galaxy phone or a substitute for checking the schedule for your model.

Samsung’s statement was that it prioritizes providing users with the latest mobile experiences “as long as hardware specifications for upgrades are met and the experience can be optimized.” Older devices may not support the latest Android version because of hardware limitations, as Samsung’s UK software-update guidance notes.
