FortiBleed is the name used for a reported FortiGate credential-harvesting campaign—not a newly disclosed FortiOS vulnerability with one affected-version list or patch. Fortinet’s June 19, 2026 analysis attributes the reported activity to credentials from earlier incidents and brute-force attempts against devices with weak passwords and no multifactor authentication (MFA). Fortinet states, “This is not a new Fortinet vulnerability, and this activity is not related to any recent incident or advisory.”
There is no single version check that determines whether a device is “vulnerable to FortiBleed.” Check whether your organization appears in the reported credential dataset, whether management or VPN services are exposed, and whether authentication logs show suspicious access. Then respond to any plausible exposure. A dataset lookup is only one signal: a match is not proof that a particular appliance was accessed, and a non-match does not prove safety.
Fortinet’s campaign analysis, June 19, 2026; Cyber Security Agency of Singapore advisory, June 22, 2026.
What the different checks can—and cannot—tell you
| Check | What it tells you | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Credential-dataset lookup | Whether the organization appears in the reported credential collection searched by that service. | Whether a specific FortiGate was accessed, whether the dataset is complete, or whether a non-match means no credentials were exposed. The Singapore advisory does not establish lookup coverage or false-negative rates. |
| Internet-exposure review | Whether FortiGate administration or VPN access is reachable from the internet and how access is controlled. | Whether an attacker actually used an exposed service. |
| Authentication and connected-system logs | Whether there are signs of unexpected administrator or VPN access, unfamiliar source addresses, or related activity in connected identity infrastructure. | By themselves, logs may not prove the full scope of an incident or rule out activity not captured in the records. |
| FortiOS version against a PSIRT advisory | Whether a device’s release is affected by a particular, separately disclosed FortiOS vulnerability, according to that advisory. | Whether credentials appear in the FortiBleed collection or were used against the device. |
The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore reported that credentials for over 70,000 FortiGate devices worldwide had been leaked. That figure describes devices whose credentials were leaked; it is not a count of devices confirmed to have been compromised.

How to check whether your FortiGate device is affected
-
Check the reported credential dataset
The Singapore advisory points organizations to SOCRadar’s FortiBleed checker and Hudson Rock’s Fortinet lookup. Use a listed lookup to check whether your organization appears in the collection it searches. Treat a match as a reason to investigate and take protective action; treat a non-match only as absence from that particular lookup’s results, not as an all-clear.
-
Review internet exposure and access controls
Identify whether FortiGate administration or VPN access is reachable from the internet. Review the access controls in place for those services and accounts. Prioritize internet-facing systems and accounts when investigating possible exposure.

-
Inspect authentication and connected-system logs
Review administrator and VPN authentication logs for unexpected access, unfamiliar source addresses, and other suspicious activity. The Singapore advisory also recommends checking domain-controller logs for signs of lateral movement or unauthorized changes. Preserve and assess relevant records under your organization’s incident-response process.
-
Check software vulnerabilities separately
Compare each relevant FortiGate product and FortiOS version with the applicable Fortinet PSIRT advisories. Each actual vulnerability has its own affected and fixed releases; verify those details in the relevant advisory and follow the recommended upgrade path for your device. Do not use a FortiOS version check as a proxy for dataset exposure or credential misuse.

For example, CVE-2022-42475 is a heap-based buffer overflow in sslvpnd, not the definition of FortiBleed. The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security’s June 2026 campaign alert also names CVE-2024-55591, CVE-2025-59718, and CVE-2025-59719 as vulnerabilities whose patches organizations should check. Consult each relevant Fortinet advisory for current affected and fixed versions.
What to do if exposure or suspicious activity is plausible
- End active sessions: Terminate active administrative and VPN sessions.
- Reset credentials: Reset Fortinet administrator and VPN passwords, especially for internet-facing systems. Use strong, unique credentials.
- Enable MFA: Require multifactor authentication for administrator and VPN accounts.
- Review password hashing: Upgrade to current FortiOS releases supporting PBKDF2 administrator-password hashing and remove legacy password-hashing settings using Fortinet’s current guidance. Check the device’s recommended upgrade path and Fortinet’s technical tip rather than relying on old version numbers or commands. The Singapore advisory links to that guidance.
- Investigate persistence: Do not assume a password reset alone restores trust. The Singapore advisory warns that an attacker may have established persistence and points to Fortinet’s factory-reset guidance. Follow your incident-response procedures, investigate the device and connected environment, and validate them before returning the appliance to trusted service.
These steps address possible credential exposure; they do not replace patching a separately identified FortiOS vulnerability under its own Fortinet PSIRT advisory.

Am I affected?
A dataset match, exposed service, or suspicious authentication record is a reason to investigate, but none alone provides a complete device-specific verdict. A non-match in a third-party lookup is not proof that your organization was absent from all exposed credentials. Fortinet’s analysis characterizes the reported activity as credential harvesting and reuse, while the government advisories recommend dataset checks and access and log reviews; those sources do not provide a status result for an individual appliance.
