Native Arm64 apps are designed for Windows on Arm; many x86 and x64 apps can run under Windows emulation, but software or accessories that depend on unsupported drivers may not work fully. For anything essential, confirm support with the app publisher or device maker and test the workflow you rely on.
Start with the exact items you need to use
Make a list of the software and accessories you depend on, including their specific versions and model numbers. Also identify the exact laptop model and configuration: Qualcomm lists several Snapdragon X2 Plus systems, but a chip-family listing does not confirm that a particular configuration includes the ports, bundled drivers, or Windows image your setup needs. Check the Qualcomm laptop finder for systems in the family, then consult the laptop maker for details about the model you are considering.
- Apps: Record the app version and any plug-ins, add-ins, security tools, virtualization components, or other required software.
- Peripherals: Record the exact printer, scanner, audio device, dock, or other accessory model, along with any companion utilities or special features you need.
- Workflow: Note what must work—not merely whether an app opens or a device appears. Examples include a particular plug-in, advanced printer feature, or device-management utility.
Check whether each app is native Arm64 or emulated
Look on the app publisher’s support or download page for a Windows on Arm or Arm64 version. A native Arm64 build is made for Arm processors, but you should still confirm that the specific version and required extensions support the features you use.
If the publisher offers only an x86 or x64 version, check whether it supports running under Windows emulation. Windows 11 on Arm supports emulation for x86 and x64 apps; Windows 11 version 24H2 includes Prism, which Microsoft describes as improving performance for emulated applications. Emulation can make many existing apps usable, but it does not guarantee that every feature, dependency, or connected device will work. See Microsoft’s Arm emulation documentation and Windows Arm-based PCs FAQ.

| What you find | What it indicates | What to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Native Arm64 app | The publisher offers a build for Arm architecture. | Confirm your app version, features, plug-ins, add-ins, and connected hardware are supported. |
| x86 or x64 app that may run under Prism | The app may run through Windows emulation. | Test the workflow and check for dependencies on drivers, security software, anti-cheat systems, or virtualization components. |
| Compatibility catalog entry | A useful lead for further checking. | Confirm the app version, features, and dependencies with its publisher. |
Microsoft’s Works on Windows on Arm catalog is one place to look for compatibility leads. In a developer blog published August 25, 2026, Microsoft reported more than 7,000 verified apps and games in the catalog at that time; the figure may change. A listing is not a guarantee that your exact version, add-ons, or workflow will work, so confirm critical cases with the publisher.
Check driver support separately for every peripheral
An app’s compatibility and a peripheral’s compatibility are separate questions. Windows on Arm needs a suitable driver built into Windows or provided by the device maker. Microsoft warns: “If a driver doesn’t work, the app or hardware that relies on it doesn’t work either (at least not fully).” Check the manufacturer’s support page for the exact model and Windows on Arm or Arm64 driver information. Microsoft’s Windows Arm-based PCs FAQ explains the driver limitation.

For printers, Microsoft says Windows 11 Arm PCs support most printers, including printers that support Mopria. If setup fails, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Basic printing support does not necessarily establish that a vendor utility or advanced feature is available; check those separately. Microsoft also provides guidance on using software and peripherals on Surface ARM-based devices.
Verify the whole setup before relying on it
- Write down each app’s name and version, each peripheral’s model number, and the exact laptop model and configuration.
- Check app publisher support and download pages for an Arm64 or Windows on Arm build. If the app is x86 or x64, check its emulation support and identify any required plug-ins, drivers, security software, or virtualization features.
- Check each peripheral maker’s support page for an Arm64 driver or explicit Windows 11 on Arm support. For a printer, also check Mopria support and the maker’s setup instructions.
- Use the Works on Windows on Arm catalog as a lead, then confirm essential apps and devices with the publisher or manufacturer. Microsoft’s Arm-based Surface devices FAQ also discusses software and compatibility considerations.
- If you can, connect the device, install the software, and perform the task you need. Test advanced features and accessories, not just installation, basic detection, or an app launch.
If a critical business app remains incompatible, ask its publisher about an Arm build. Eligible Microsoft 365 or Windows plan customers may also seek compatibility help through App Assure; check Microsoft’s Arm-based Surface devices FAQ for guidance and confirm your eligibility with Microsoft.

What a compatibility check can—and cannot—tell you
A confirmed Arm64 build or an available Arm64 driver is a stronger sign than a general claim that an app or device works on Windows. Even then, compatibility depends on the version, features, dependencies, and laptop configuration involved. The available information does not establish a Snapdragon X2 Plus-specific app or peripheral pass rate, so a chip-family name or catalog entry cannot replace confirmation of your exact setup.
