There is no single NVIDIA “professional mode” switch to check. First identify the specific feature and application, then inspect the relevant Control Panel setting and confirm the application actually uses it. A visible setting can show configuration, but it does not prove a workload is using the GPU successfully.
Identify the feature and workload you need to check
“Professional features” can mean different things: a GPU hardware capability, a driver or Control Panel setting, CUDA device selection, application support or certification, or licensing for a virtual workstation. These are separate layers, so start with the exact feature name and the application or workload where you expect it to work.
Record the GPU model, driver version, application version, and whether the workstation is local or virtualized. Compare those details with the feature’s requirements. A professional-branded GPU, enterprise driver, or application certification may be relevant, but none alone guarantees that every feature is available or active.
Check the workstation GPU and display status
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel. NVIDIA describes it as the place to control graphics-driver settings and other installed NVIDIA utilities. The application is available only when supported by the installed GPU and driver.
- Go to Workstation > View system topology. When available, this view presents graphics cards and attached displays in a hierarchy. Expand entries to inspect related feature status and follow links to relevant settings. Use the More control for additional GPU details, including driver version.
Menu availability and labels vary by GPU, driver, and Control Panel configuration. NVIDIA’s System Topology help explains the view; if the Workstation section is absent, that does not by itself establish that the GPU is faulty.

Check whether CUDA is available to the target program
CUDA access can depend both on the GPU usage mode and on which GPUs are selected for CUDA applications. NVIDIA documents these controls for supported Quadro-era Control Panel configurations; newer hardware or drivers may expose different options or labels.
Inspect GPU usage mode, if the option exists
- In NVIDIA Control Panel, open Workstation > Manage GPU Utilization > Usage mode.
- Check whether the selected mode includes both professional graphics and CUDA compute, or professional graphics only.
- If the option is missing, do not assume the setting is disabled; its availability depends on the supported GPU and driver configuration.
See NVIDIA’s usage mode instructions for the documented choices.

Inspect global and per-application CUDA GPU selection
- Open Manage 3D Settings in NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Review the global setting and, if the application has its own profile, select that program in the program settings.
- Find CUDA – GPUs and verify that the GPU you expect the program to use is selected.
- Apply any needed change, then restart the application before testing again.
NVIDIA states that GPUs not selected in this setting will not be used for CUDA applications. This is a configuration check, not proof of successful execution. See the Manage 3D Settings reference.
Verify that the application actually uses the feature
After checking the Control Panel, confirm operation in the target application. Look for its own GPU, renderer, CUDA, or performance status view, then run a representative task that depends on the feature. The application should identify the expected GPU or feature while the task is running. If it does not, the setting alone cannot distinguish an application limitation, unsupported driver or hardware, incorrect selection, or another workload-specific issue.

- Confirm the application version supports the feature and GPU model.
- Check application preferences for a separate renderer, compute-device, or GPU selection.
- Use a representative task rather than relying only on an idle status screen.
Check RTX Virtual Workstation licensing only on virtualized systems
If the feature you mean is NVIDIA RTX Virtual Workstation (vWS) licensing, open NVIDIA Control Panel > Licensing > Manage License. NVIDIA says that when this Licensing/Manage License section is missing, the GPU or driver does not support the vGPU software-licensed features. If the page is present, inspect the license mode and acquisition status it reports.
This check is specifically about NVIDIA vGPU software licensing; it does not diagnose other workstation capabilities. Follow NVIDIA’s RTX Virtual Workstation licensing instructions and compare the result with the requirements for your virtualized deployment.

| The expected GPU or display is absent from System Topology | Verify the installed GPU and driver details, then compare them with the feature and application requirements. Topology is an inventory/status view, not a guarantee that every application feature is supported. |
| A CUDA application does not use the expected GPU | Check Usage mode if available, then inspect global and application-specific CUDA – GPUs selections. Confirm device use inside the application during a representative task. |
| The feature works in one application but not another | Check each application’s own feature support, driver requirements, and GPU selection; support in one program does not establish support in another. |
| The vWS licensing page is missing in a virtual workstation | Check whether the GPU and driver support the vGPU software-licensed features, then validate the deployment requirements. Absence of this page is not a general diagnosis of local workstation features. |
For product-specific capabilities, use the requirements for the exact GPU model rather than the RTX PRO label alone. NVIDIA’s RTX PRO desktop GPU information describes its professional desktop lineup, but the required capability still needs to be matched to the particular model, driver, application, and deployment.
What a successful check establishes
A reliable confirmation combines three kinds of evidence: the hardware and driver are eligible for the feature, the relevant Control Panel or licensing configuration is appropriate, and the target application reports or demonstrates actual use in a representative task. No single Control Panel page establishes all three.
