For an Intel Mac, check both its exact model and whether Apple supports it for macOS Sequoia; having Bluetooth alone does not establish compatibility.
Check your Mac model and macOS version
- Open Apple menu > About This Mac. Note the Mac’s model, year, and installed macOS version. About This Mac shows the macOS version currently installed, according to Apple’s instructions.
- Check whether that model supports macOS Sequoia. Compare it with Apple’s official list of Mac models compatible with macOS Sequoia. The Intel models on the list are below.
- Meet the accessory’s OS requirement. If your Mac is supported, use Software Update to install macOS 15.1 or later when available for that Mac. Apple says updates are delivered through Software Update when a later compatible version is available.
- Pair the accessory. Turn it on and check Bluetooth settings to confirm it appears as paired. If you have a compatible charging or pairing cable, connecting the accessory can pair it automatically and charge it.
Intel Macs listed as compatible with macOS Sequoia
Apple’s Sequoia compatibility list includes these Intel models. Match the complete model description, not just the product family or year:
| Mac family | Intel models on Apple’s Sequoia list |
|---|---|
| MacBook Pro | 13-inch 2018 (four Thunderbolt 3 ports); 15-inch 2018; 13-inch and 15-inch 2019 configurations; 16-inch 2019; and 13-inch 2020 models with either two or four Thunderbolt 3 ports |
| MacBook Air | Retina, 13-inch, 2020 |
| iMac | Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019; Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019 and 2020 |
| iMac Pro | 2017 |
| Mac mini | 2018 |
| Mac Pro | 2019 |
Apple’s list is the relevant model-by-model check for the required macOS release. If your Intel Mac is not listed, do not assume it qualifies simply because it has Bluetooth.
What the macOS requirement means
Apple lists “Mac with macOS 15.1 or later” as the system requirement for both Magic Mouse (USB-C) and Magic Trackpad (USB-C). A Mac that cannot install macOS 15.1 should not be treated as supported for these products: Apple’s specifications do not provide an older-macOS exception list.
#1 Best Overall
- Magic Trackpad is wireless and rechargeable, and it includes the full range of Multi-Touch gestures and Force Touch technology.
- Sensors underneath the trackpad surface detect subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply, bringing more functionality to your fingertips and enabling a deeper connection to your content.
- It features a large edge-to-edge glass surface area, making scrolling and swiping through your favourite content more productive and comfortable than ever.
- Magic Trackpad pairs automatically with your Mac, so you can get to work straightaway.
- The rechargeable battery will power it for about a month or more between charges.
Apple separately specifies macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later for the documented gestures on USB-C Magic Mouse models. If those gestures matter to you, the same OS check applies.
USB-C for charging and Bluetooth for wireless use
USB-C describes the port on these accessory models; the wireless connection to the Mac uses Bluetooth. You do not need to infer that the Mac itself must have a USB-C port for wireless operation. A compatible cable can help with initial pairing and charging, but Bluetooth is the wireless connection.

Choosing between the two accessories
Compatibility does not distinguish between the products: both have the same stated minimum of macOS 15.1 or later. Choose based on the input style and gestures you want. Apple describes Magic Trackpad as supporting Force Touch and Multi-Touch, while its Magic Mouse guidance covers mouse gestures.
