Look for an explicit statement about each feature, the platforms covered, and any account, setting, edition, or subscription requirements. Cross-play and cross-progression are separate: support for one does not establish support for the other.
Check the exact game and platform versions first
Start with the full game title and the platforms you want to connect—for example, the PS5 version and a friend’s PC version. Also check whether either person is playing a PS4 edition. A game running on PS5 is not necessarily the PS5 version, and platform support can differ by edition.

PlayStation says PS4 and PS5 players can play together depending on the game, but the developer must provide that support. That is cross-generation multiplayer, not proof that the game supports PC or Xbox play. Check the title’s own current information and name the supported platform pairs rather than relying on a broad “cross-platform” label. Verify cross-play in official game information
- Open the current PlayStation Store listing and the game’s official FAQ. Search the pages for “cross-play,” “crossplay,” and “cross-platform.” An online-multiplayer label alone does not tell you which platforms can play together.
- Confirm the exact platforms and versions. Look for an explicit list or statement covering the pair you care about, such as PS5 and PC or PS4 and PS5. If the listing is vague, consult the developer or publisher’s support page.
- Check for a setting or invite requirement. Some titles require cross-play invites or cross-platform matchmaking to be enabled. Follow the title’s own menu instructions and test the intended invite flow.
For example, PlayStation’s US Split Fiction FAQ says cross-play works on supported platforms and includes Friend’s Pass. It directs players to Options → Privacy Settings to enable cross-play game invites. This is title-specific; it does not establish that another game has the same setting or supports the same platforms.

Check cross-progression separately
Search the game FAQ and support pages for “cross-progression,” “cross-save,” and statements about shared progress or a linked account. The wording should establish that progress carries across the particular platforms you intend to use. Do not infer it from cross-play: being able to play together does not mean a save, level, or other progress transfers between platforms.
Read the conditions attached to the claim. A game may require a particular publisher or platform account, a one-time account link, or the same account on each device. Account linking by itself does not prove that every kind of progress—or purchases—will transfer.

As a specific example, PlayStation’s US Horizon Hunters Gathering FAQ says cross-progression works when players are logged in and save their game using the same PlayStation account. That condition applies to this game; it is not a universal PlayStation rule. The page describes the game as planned for PS5 and PC (Steam), mentions playtests, and says a release date will be shared later. Treat it as an announced example and recheck the official page for current availability and terms.
Distinguish cross-progression from PlayStation save syncing
PS4-to-PS5 save transfer or PlayStation cloud storage is not evidence that a game shares progress with PC or Xbox. PlayStation’s cloud-save guidance covers supported saved data on PlayStation consoles, not a blanket cross-platform progression feature. To inspect a PS5 game’s save sync status, use Settings → Saved Data and Game/App Settings → Saved Data (PS5) → Sync Saved Data → View Sync Status; the game’s home screen may also offer Check Sync Status of Saved Data. Check account linking and online requirements
Confirm the linked account
If the game asks you to link an account, follow the instructions for that title and verify which account is connected before you start playing. PlayStation says PC account linking may occur during sign-in or through a prompt, and that the process varies between games. Its PlayStation gaming on PC support page is general guidance; use the game’s own current support steps for the exact linking process.
Check multiplayer access separately
Online multiplayer eligibility and cross-play are different questions. Some PS5 games require PlayStation Plus for online play; check the game’s Store listing and your region’s terms. PlayStation’s guide to joining a game on PS5 explains the console invite flow, but joining a PS5 game group is not proof of cross-platform compatibility.

Use this checklist before you play
- Have you identified the exact game, edition, and PS4 or PS5 version?
- Does an official source explicitly confirm cross-play for the platforms you want to connect?
- Does it separately confirm cross-progression for those platforms, and specify what carries over?
- Are there account-linking, region, edition, invite, or in-game setting requirements?
- Have you checked current online subscription requirements for your region?
- Did you distinguish PS4/PS5 multiplayer or save transfer from PC/Xbox cross-platform support?
Features and account rules can change. When you verify a game, note the date and region shown on the official source; the reviewed PlayStation resources do not provide one comprehensive current index of every title with cross-play or cross-progression.
