Use the official USDA Income and Property Eligibility Site: select the relevant Single Family Housing program, open Property Eligibility, then search the property’s complete street address on the map. The result is a preliminary location check—not a final property decision or proof that you qualify for a loan.
Check a property address on the USDA eligibility map

Open the USDA Income and Property Eligibility Site.

Select the Single Family Housing program that matches the loan path you are considering. USDA provides separate Guaranteed and Direct program options.

Choose Property Eligibility. This is the site’s path for checking whether a property is in an eligible rural area.

Enter the complete street address in the map’s search box and submit it. If the address does not resolve, confirm the spelling and address details; you can also zoom to the general area and inspect the map.

Read the status as an initial indication. USDA handbook material describes results of eligible, ineligible, or unable to determine.
What the map result means
Eligible
The map indicates that the location is in an eligible area for the selected program. Continue with borrower, property, and program requirements; this result is not loan approval.
Ineligible
The location is not marked eligible in the selected program’s map. If the result seems inconsistent with the address or property location, verify the address and map position, then ask USDA Rural Development or a participating lender for guidance.

Unable to determine
The map has not resolved the address to a clear result. Recheck the address and selected program, and contact USDA Rural Development or a participating lender if the result remains unclear.
Property location is only one part of eligibility
A home can be in an eligible area while the household does not meet the applicable income or other program requirements. USDA’s site separates property eligibility from applicant and household assessment, and notes that many loans use household income guidelines. A map result alone does not establish that a buyer qualifies or that a loan will be approved.

The application route also depends on the program. USDA describes Guaranteed loans for moderate-income households and Direct loans for low- or very-low-income households. Guaranteed applicants apply through an active participating lender; Direct applicants use USDA Rural Development’s application route.

Why the map is not a final determination
USDA Rural Development cautions that “Viewing eligibility maps on this website does not constitute a final determination by Rural Development.” It also states: “Final determination of property eligibility must be made by Rural Development upon receipt of a complete application.” Use the map to screen a location, then confirm the property and your situation through the applicable application process.
