No public source gives reliable odds that a specific Magic: The Gathering card will be reprinted. You can still run a repeatable check. First, see whether the card is on Wizards of the Coast’s Reserved List. Then look for an official announcement. Finally, weigh the card’s history and its fit with upcoming set themes as context, not as a forecast. Wizards says any card off the Reserved List may be reprinted. It also warns that being off the list does not mean a reprint is planned.
What each check can and cannot tell you

Step 1: Confirm the exact card
Write down the card’s name and rules text, and note which printing you mean. Search Gatherer, which Wizards Support identifies as its official card database. Use it to browse the card’s printings and rulings.
Decide what “reprint” means for your purposes. Wizards’ design commentary separates exact reprints from changes in flavor, creature type or template. A card with a similar name, or one with updated wording, is not the same as a new printing of the card you care about.
Step 2: Check the Reserved List
Compare the card name with the current Reserved List on Wizards’ website. Then apply the result:

- Some may contain Foils or Mythics but not all.
- Sets can range from Beta to the current Magic the Gathering set.

- Listed: Wizards’ Official Reprint Policy (dated May 4, 2016) says the card will not be printed again in a functionally identical form. Functional identity covers card type, subtypes, abilities, mana cost, power and toughness. The policy also says the list will not gain cards and no cards will be removed from it.
- Not listed: The card is eligible for reprint. That is all you can conclude. In the policy’s words: “The exclusion of any particular card from the reserved list doesn’t indicate that there are any plans to reprint that card.”
The policy covers physical, tournament-legal Magic cards. Wizards separately notes special-purpose versions that are not meant for regular gameplay. So say “will not be reprinted in a functionally identical, regular-play form”, not “can never appear in any form.”
Step 3: Look for official confirmation
Open Wizards’ product archive and current announcements. Follow the official card-list links for any set that could plausibly include your card. The archive changes as products and lists are published, so note the date you checked.

- If the card is named in an official list, that printing is confirmed.
- If it is absent, treat it as unannounced in those materials on that date.
- Do not read absence as a promise that the card won’t return.
Step 4: Weigh context carefully
Print history shows how often a card has been used, but it is not an independent estimate of future odds. Wizards’ stated reasons for reprinting are useful for judging fit:
- The card makes for enjoyable gameplay.
- All players deserve an opportunity to play with these cards. The policy says: “We choose to reprint cards because we believe (a) the cards we reprint make for enjoyable game play, and (b) all Magic players deserve an opportunity to play with these cards.”
- Familiar, well-understood cards help players learn a set, and reuse conserves design space.
Ask whether the card’s mechanics or theme suit a known set. Mark Rosewater’s 2020 column “Back to the Future Sight” shows the style of this reasoning. He sorted Future Sight cards (the 2007 set had 81 futureshifted cards) into “likely,” “unlikely,” “very unlikely” and “already reprinted.” He defined “Likely” as “a card that I can see us reprinting in the right environment.” That is one designer’s retrospective judgment about specific cards, not a forecasting model. The 81 is a count of cards, not a reprint statistic.

Step 5: Write a bounded conclusion
Keep confirmed facts, policy limits and speculation apart. A sound summary reads like this:
“The card is not on the Reserved List, so it is eligible for reprint. It fits [specific set theme or past use], but Wizards has not announced it in the sources checked on [date]. No published odds exist.”

For a Reserved List card, say instead that Wizards’ policy rules out a functionally identical reprint.

- Don’t invent a percentage or a time window. No general reprint probability turned up in Wizards’ policy or its design commentary.
- Don’t treat the Reserved List as a prediction tool. It only identifies cards that are off the table.
