A studio acquisition alone does not tell you whether a game you already have will remain accessible, receive updates, or keep its online features. Check the game in the account and platform where you got it, then look for a current, official notice about that specific title. Verify access, saves, DLC, updates, installers, support, and online features separately: one may stay unchanged while another changes.
Check what “owning” the game means in your case
Start with the account and platform you use to access the game. A purchase in a storefront library, access through a subscription catalog, a physical copy, and access through a publisher launcher are not interchangeable. Note the exact game edition, platform, and account before looking for transfer instructions.

An acquisition of the studio is also not necessarily a change to your platform entitlement. For Steam specifically, Valve says that when an app transfers between Steamworks partner accounts, customer ownership is not interrupted or changed. That rule applies to Steam app transfers; it does not establish what happens in every acquisition or on other platforms. Steamworks: Transferring Applications
Find the official notice for the game
- Search the new publisher’s official website and support pages for the game’s name alongside terms such as “acquisition,” “service transfer,” “support,” or “FAQ.” Check the game’s official channels as well.
- Compare the notice with the game’s page and support information on the platform where you access it. Check your library or account directly rather than relying only on a general announcement.
- Record the notice’s publication date, effective date, and any stated platform or regional limits. An announcement can set different dates for service, support, or billing changes.
- Follow any title-specific instructions for account linking, installer changes, keys, or support. If the announcement does not address an issue you care about, ask the publisher or platform rather than assuming it is unaffected.
Verify each part of the game separately
Look for explicit answers to these questions in the notice, current support pages, and your account. “The game is still playable” does not necessarily answer whether it will receive patches, whether your save transfers, or whether its servers remain available.

- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
- Access and reinstalling: Does the game remain in your library or account? Can you still download it? Has the publisher changed the launcher, installer, key, or download location?
- Saves, achievements, DLC, and purchases: Does the notice say these remain available? Check whether the statement covers your platform and edition.
- Updates and versions: Which editions or game generations will receive patches, and where will updates be distributed? A transfer does not itself promise future updates.
- Support: Which company handles game-specific bugs and gameplay questions now? Are older versions or third-party releases excluded from support?
- Multiplayer and online dependencies: Check for server status, matchmaking, authentication, account-linking, and service-sunset notices. A game can remain in your library while an online feature changes.
Publisher-side changes can require technical work even when player entitlements remain intact. Steamworks, for example, says publisher API keys do not transfer with an app and advises partners to create replacement keys and update server infrastructure. That is a developer-side consideration, not evidence that a particular transfer caused an outage. Steamworks: Transferring Applications
What past transfer notices demonstrate
Steam app transfers
Valve’s Steamworks documentation says public elements of an app ID remain the same after a transfer and customer ownership is not interrupted or changed. The new app owner can later edit the store page, publisher field, assets, build, and price. The documentation also says community content such as reviews and forums is not affected by the transfer. These details describe Steam app transfers between partner accounts, not every corporate acquisition. Steamworks: Transferring Applications

Battlefront games under Slitherine
Slitherine’s Battlefront FAQ describes a mixed outcome: customers continue to access purchased games through their Battlefront accounts, while patch coverage, installers, the store, and support systems have specific arrangements. It also gives instructions for serial registration and Steam keys where available. This illustrates why access and ongoing support need separate checks. Slitherine: Battlefront FAQ
Hi-Fi RUSH under KRAFTON
KRAFTON’s notice, updated November 19, 2025, says publishing and support services transferred on November 14, 2025. It says saves, purchases, DLC, and achievements remained, and existing Steam, Epic, PlayStation, and Xbox players could continue playing. The notice also says the Bethesda.net connection feature in the game menu was disabled and directs players to KRAFTON for post-transfer support. Those are title-specific terms, not a prediction for other games. KRAFTON: Hi-Fi RUSH Service Transfer FAQ

Understand what a platform’s terms do—and do not—promise
Steam’s Subscriber Agreement describes its content and services as “licensed, not sold,” says use requires a Steam account and may require an internet connection, and says users are not entitled to future updates except where applicable law requires them. Those statements are Steam’s terms, not a universal rule for every platform or purchase. Your situation can depend on the platform’s current terms, the type of access you have, the game’s terms, and applicable law. Steam Subscriber Agreement
If your concern is a refund, loss of access, or consumer rights, check the platform’s current policy and the consumer-protection rules that apply where you live. The information above does not determine legal rights in an individual case.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Contact the right support team if something has changed
For a game-specific bug, gameplay question, or multiplayer connection problem, Steam says to contact the game’s developer or publisher. For a platform purchase, account-access problem, or platform error, start with platform support. A transfer can change which publisher is responsible, so use the contact listed in the latest official notice. Steam Support: Third-party game support
When you report an unresolved access issue, include the purchase receipt or other proof of access, account and platform, game edition, exact error message, and relevant notice. Do not send your password or authentication codes.
