Open the game’s Steam Store page while signed in and check for a region-restriction notice. Then confirm the account’s store country in Account Details. Gifts and third-party Steam keys have separate rules, so check those independently rather than assuming the Store page answers every kind of availability question.
Check the game’s Steam Store page first
Steam says product restrictions are noted on the product’s Store page. Open the game’s page while signed in, and make sure Steam is showing the country relevant to your account. A page that loads does not by itself establish that every purchase type or activation method will work in that country.
Steam does not publish a general list in the cited support information that establishes availability for every title and country. Check the live page for the specific game and account; do not infer a title’s availability from another country’s listing. See Steam Support: Region Restrictions on Steam.
Confirm your Steam account’s store country
Your account’s current store country appears in Account Details. Steam says the country is based on the location of your first Steam purchase. If you have genuinely moved or are residing abroad for an extended period, Steam describes changing the country during checkout with a payment method from the new country. The selected country must match where you currently reside, and Steam allows a country change only once every three months.

To check it, sign in to Steam, open your account menu, choose Account Details, and review the store country shown on the account page. For Steam’s rules on changing it, see Steam Support: Steam Store Country.
Check the purchase type separately
Direct Store purchases, gifts, and retail keys do not follow one universal regional rule. Steam says most products bought directly from its Store have no region restrictions, but gifts may be restricted. Retail key limits depend on the publisher.

Steam’s explanation is at Region Restrictions on Steam. A Store-page result should not be treated as confirmation that a separately sold key or gift can be redeemed in the same country.
Troubleshoot a page or checkout that does not look right
- The page shows an unexpected currency: Open Steam through the Steam application. Steam notes that a link may have taken you to another regional Store page.
- Checkout fails while you are traveling: Confirm the account’s existing store country, turn off VPN or proxy software, and use a payment method that matches that country. Steam says proxy transactions will be declined and attempts to bypass regional pricing or content restrictions are forbidden.
- A gift is restricted: Follow the gift’s displayed redemption limits. Steam warns that using a VPN or proxy to disguise your location to redeem a region-restricted gift violates its terms and may lead to account restrictions.

Tell a regional restriction from a platform incompatibility
The message “Game is not available on your current platform” refers to an unsupported operating system, not necessarily a country restriction. Check the game’s system requirements on its Store page if you see that message. Steam explains the error at Game is not available on your current platform.

Steam says the activation error “Game not available in your territory” means a regionally restricted copy is being activated from another region. Steam Support says it cannot remove the restriction: “Steam Support is unable to modify or remove any region restrictions.” If the key came from a retailer, contact the seller about refund options.
