To check whether a crypto futures decentralized exchange (DEX) is available to you, verify two things separately: whether the exact product and interface permit people in your circumstances, and whether your country’s rules allow that product to be offered to you. A site loading or a wallet connecting does not establish eligibility or legality. Do not use a VPN or another identity-masking method to get around a restriction.
Check a specific product and route to access it
“Crypto futures DEX” can mean perpetual contracts, dated futures, or another derivative. Access may be through a protocol, a particular website front end, or a third-party deployment. Those are not necessarily interchangeable: the same project may offer multiple products or interfaces with different terms.
Write down the exact product and the website or other interface you intend to use. Then identify who operates that interface. For example, dYdX says it does not deploy or operate public v4 software and describes front-end providers as independent third parties. Its information page, last updated February 26, 2024, lists front-end options; check the current page and provider terms rather than assuming the list remains current. dYdX Chain Front End Options
Read the platform and front-end terms
Start with the protocol’s current official terms, then read the terms for the exact front end separately. Search for phrases such as “restricted person,” “restricted territory,” “perpetuals,” “eligible,” “reside,” “citizen,” “located,” and “VPN.” Check which clauses apply to the product you identified and what connections to a country or person the terms consider. Terms may address residence, citizenship, location, incorporation, principal place of business, or control—not just an IP address.

dYdX’s Software Terms of Use, last updated March 12, 2026, specify restrictions for its perpetuals trading software, including restrictions connected to the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and separate restrictions for defined territories and certain persons. They also prohibit using a VPN or similar mechanism to circumvent restrictions. This is an example for dYdX, not a list that can be applied to other DEXs. Read the current dYdX Software Terms of Use before relying on it.
A protocol’s open software does not mean every interface has the same operator, terms, or availability. Confirm that the front end you plan to use is the one covered by the terms you have read, and do not treat successful access as permission.

Check the rules in your country for that product
Look at your financial regulator’s current guidance and, where necessary, official legislation. Search for the product’s actual structure and names—such as derivatives, futures, perpetual contracts, or CFDs—as well as rules for retail clients and cross-border services. Product classification matters: a platform’s marketing label does not settle how a regulator treats the contract.
United Kingdom
The FCA says its rules ban firms acting in, or from, the UK from selling, marketing, or distributing specified derivatives and exchange-traded notes referencing unregulated transferable cryptoassets to retail consumers. The scope depends on the product, firm, and user facts; it is not a blanket statement that every crypto futures DEX is prohibited for every UK-connected person. Check the FCA’s crypto-derivatives ban information and the current FCA Handbook provisions relevant to the product.
European Union
In a statement published February 24, 2026, ESMA said derivatives marketed as perpetual futures or perpetual contracts are likely to fall within existing national CFD product-intervention measures when they meet the definition of a CFD. The measures it identifies include leverage limits, risk warnings, margin close-out, negative balance protection, and a ban on monetary and non-monetary benefits. That is a classification observation, not a country-by-country availability list. Read ESMA’s statement on perpetual futures and CFD measures, then check the rules and guidance that apply in your country.
United States
The CFTC warns that virtual-currency volatility is amplified in margined futures and describes futures speculation as high risk. Its customer advisory says people offered virtual-currency futures or options should verify registration with the CFTC. This is US guidance, not a universal licensing test for every country or DEX. Regulatory status for one service does not establish the status or protections of every product offered under the same name. ESMA has cautioned investors not to assume that authorization for some crypto-asset services means all products offered by the entity are regulated or carry the same protections. Assess the particular derivative and service, not just the protocol or company brand. See ESMA’s investor warning on unregulated products offered by regulated crypto-asset entities.
When comparing venues, assess the product’s contractual structure, the current country and person-status restrictions, the front end’s operator and separate terms, the local regulator’s treatment of the product, and the risk disclosures and protections that apply. These checks do not establish a universally suitable or available venue.

If the platform terms and your regulator’s materials do not resolve your situation, treat availability as unconfirmed. Do not infer permission from a working website, a wallet connection, or a geolocation result. Seek qualified local advice about the named product and your circumstances before proceeding. This method is a verification guide, not legal advice or a complete survey of every country and DEX. Check official pages again when making your decision because terms, interfaces, and rules can change.
