It depends on which feature you mean. Samsung phones can use Chromebook Phone Hub features such as notifications and recent photos when the devices meet Google’s requirements, but Google’s current app-streaming eligibility list does not include Samsung models. Android apps installed on a Chromebook are a separate capability, supported only on some Chromebooks.
First identify the Chromebook feature you want to use
“Android integration” can refer to several different things. Check the specific feature rather than treating a phone connection as proof that everything is supported.
- Phone Hub: View phone notifications, recent photos, Chrome tabs, phone status, and quick commands from the Chromebook. Availability depends on the feature’s requirements and settings.
- App streaming: Open supported apps from the phone on the Chromebook. Google lists eligible phone models for this feature, and its current examples do not include Samsung.
- Android apps on the Chromebook: Install apps locally from Google Play. This depends on the Chromebook, not on whether a Samsung phone is connected.
- Smart Lock or hotspot: Use the phone to help unlock the Chromebook or provide an internet connection. Each has its own requirements.
How do I turn on Phone Hub?
Google’s Phone Hub requirements are a Chromebook running ChromeOS M89 or later and an Android phone running Android 5.1 or later. Bluetooth must be on. Google’s general phone-connection guide gives different minimums—ChromeOS 71 and Android 6—so use the Phone Hub page’s requirements when checking Phone Hub specifically. Google’s Phone Hub setup guide explains the feature and setup.
- On the Chromebook, open Settings > Connected devices.
- Select your Samsung phone. If it is not connected yet, follow the on-screen setup steps.
- Turn on Phone Hub, then enable the individual feature toggles you want, such as notifications or recent photos.
- Check the relevant permission or setting on the phone if a selected feature does not work.
Connecting the phone does not automatically switch on every Phone Hub feature. A work- or school-managed Chromebook may also have phone features restricted by its administrator.

Can I see notifications and other phone information?
Google documents Phone Hub support for notifications, Chrome tabs, recent photos, phone status and quick commands. Which options appear and work depends on the connected phone, the Chromebook’s settings, and the requirements for the specific feature. Check the Phone Hub toggles under Settings > Connected devices rather than assuming all options are enabled by pairing alone.
Can I stream apps from my Samsung phone to a Chromebook?
Do not assume app streaming works just because Phone Hub connects. Google’s current eligible-model examples name Pixel 4a or later, Nothing Phone (1) and (2), and select Xiaomi models running Android 13 or later. Samsung is not included in that list, so Google’s published eligibility information does not establish app streaming support for Samsung phones. Check Google’s current app-streaming requirements for any updates and the precise eligible models.

For supported devices, Google says to grant the Chromebook access on the phone to notifications, photos and media, and apps, then enable Notifications and Apps in the Chromebook’s Connected devices settings. The phone and Chromebook also need to be close together and on the same Wi-Fi network. Some public or private Wi-Fi networks may prevent streaming; Google notes Instant Tethering as one way to put the devices on the same local network in some cases.
Does my Chromebook support Android apps?
Installing an Android app from Google Play on the Chromebook is different from streaming an app that runs on the phone. Google Play is available on only some Chromebooks, and apps installed this way are downloaded to the Chromebook rather than copied automatically from your Samsung phone.

- On the Chromebook, open Settings > Apps > Manage Google Play preferences.
- If the Google Play preferences setting is available, follow its instructions to set up Play Store access.
- If the setting is missing, Google says that Chromebook does not support Android apps. See Google’s Android-app setup guide for details.
What does Smart Lock or hotspot require?
Smart Lock
Google’s Smart Lock guidance requires the Chromebook and phone to use the same Google Account, the phone to be unlocked, Bluetooth to be on, and the phone to have a screen lock. Review Google’s Smart Lock instructions if those checks are met but unlocking still does not work.
Phone hotspot
To use the Samsung phone’s hotspot, select it from the Chromebook’s network settings and follow the connection prompts. Hotspot use can drain more phone battery and may incur mobile-data charges, depending on your plan. Google’s phone-connection guide covers connecting a phone and using its internet connection.

What should I check if Phone Hub will not connect?
If the Chromebook and phone meet the Phone Hub requirements but connection fails, Google recommends checking Bluetooth on both devices, removing old Bluetooth pairings from each, toggling Bluetooth on the phone, and restarting the Chromebook. Then return to Settings > Connected devices and complete the setup again if needed. For a managed work or school Chromebook, ask the administrator whether Phone Hub is allowed.
