In Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Windows Update > Update history. The page shows which updates were installed and when. “Update & Security” is the older Windows 10 Settings label; the current Windows 11 section is called Windows Update.
Where do I find Windows Update history in Windows 11?
- Open Start, then select Settings.
- Select Windows Update in the Settings sidebar.
- Select Update history.

What does Update history tell me?
Update history is an installed-update record: it shows updates that were installed and when. It can help you identify a recent installation if a problem started around the same time, but timing alone does not establish that the update caused the problem. This page is not a complete diagnostic log and should not be treated as a record of every failure detail.
What should I do if an update caused a problem?
Start with the Windows Update troubleshooter
Microsoft recommends starting Windows 11 update troubleshooting with the automated troubleshooter in the Get Help app. You can also open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. Choose the Windows Update troubleshooter if it is listed, then follow its prompts. See Microsoft’s Windows update troubleshooting guidance for further steps.

Back up personal files before making changes
If you move beyond checking history and are about to try troubleshooting that changes your system, Microsoft advises backing up personal files. A USB drive is one option. Backing up is not necessary just to view Update history.
Consider uninstalling only after identifying the update
In Update history, look under Related settings for Uninstall updates. Microsoft notes that some updates cannot be removed. Removing a security update can leave the device exposed to the issue it addressed, so consider the risk before proceeding; Microsoft’s Windows 11 guidance says to try reinstalling the version first. Follow Microsoft’s instructions for uninstalling a Windows Update and review its Windows recovery options if the issue persists.
