To see which security patch is installed on your Galaxy Z Fold, open Settings > About phone > Software information and check Android security patch level. To see whether an update is available for your device, use Settings > Software update > Download and install.
Find the security patch installed on your Fold
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Tap Software information.
- Read the date beside Android security patch level. This identifies the patch level installed on your phone; it is separate from the Android version and build number. Samsung’s official Galaxy update guide explains where to view software information, and Google’s Android help confirms the field name.
Check whether an update is available
Return to Settings and tap Software update > Download and install, then follow any prompts. Depending on the model, carrier, and software version, the option or an intervening prompt may instead say Check for updates, Check for system updates, or Check for software updates. Samsung notes that some carriers may require Wi-Fi to check for or install an update; if the check fails, try again on Wi-Fi.
How to interpret the date and update result
- The date under Android security patch level tells you the patch information installed on this particular phone. It does not by itself show whether that is the newest patch released for every Fold model or market.
- If the update checker says the phone is up to date, it means no update is currently offered to that device configuration. It is not a universal latest-patch date for all Galaxy Z Folds.
- Samsung says update availability and schedules can vary by model, country, and network operator, and may change during review. Its India update schedule illustrates that variation; it should not be treated as a schedule for every Fold or region.
If the menu names differ
Samsung says available screens and settings can vary by model, provider, and software version. If you do not see Software information or Software update, look for System updates or consult support information for your precise Fold model and sales region. Samsung Gulf’s Android-version guidance includes the Z Fold family and gives the software-details route. Menu wording may differ across devices.
