For a decision about going outside now, check the latest regional 1-hour PM2.5 reading and its health guidance. For tomorrow or a long event during haze, use NEA’s 24-hour PSI forecast and advisory to plan, then check 1-hour PM2.5 again before you leave. The official readings are available from the National Environment Agency (NEA), NEA’s website, haze.gov.sg and the myENV app.

Where to check Singapore’s official air-quality readings

NEA identifies its reported air-quality data as Singapore’s official information. NEA and the Ministry of Health (MOH) direct the public to NEA’s website, haze.gov.sg and myENV for readings and haze advisories. During haze episodes, these channels provide the 24-hour PSI forecast and daily advisory. Start with an official channel rather than treating a third-party AQI as interchangeable with Singapore’s PSI or NEA’s 1-hour PM2.5 bands. NEA’s air-quality FAQ

Find the readings in the myENV app

  1. Open myENV and go to Settings > Features & Alerts.
  2. Enable Air Quality, then return to the landing page.
  3. Select 24-hr PSI, 1-hr PM2.5 or Regional Haze, depending on what you need.

These steps follow NEA’s 2026 myENV user guide; app labels and menus can change in later versions. NEA myENV user guide (2026)

Which reading should you use?

Reading What it represents Best use What to keep in mind
1-hour PM2.5 Average PM2.5 concentration over the past hour, shown in µg/m³. Deciding whether to walk, run or do another activity outdoors now. It can fluctuate, particularly during transboundary haze. Check the latest regional value close to departure.
24-hour PSI An index based on 24-hour averages of six pollutants: PM10, PM2.5, sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone and carbon monoxide (CO). Planning ahead, especially for next-day plans or activities lasting many hours during haze. The forecast is intended to be less volatile than hourly PM2.5. Check the current 1-hour PM2.5 reading on the day of the activity too.

NEA’s distinction is practical: 1-hour PM2.5 is meant for immediate decisions, while the 24-hour PSI forecast is more suitable for planning ahead. NEA does not use a 1-hour PSI for health findings; PM2.5 is a concentration reading, not an hourly version of the PSI. Use the Singapore-specific PM2.5 guide and the PSI advice for their respective time windows. NEA air-quality FAQ NEA and MOH guidance on 1-hour PM2.5 and 24-hour PSI

How to decide whether to go outdoors

For an outing today

  1. Check 1-hour PM2.5 for the relevant region shortly before leaving.
  2. Read the accompanying personal guide and band descriptor. Do not convert the figure with another country’s AQI calculator: national AQI systems use different breakpoints and descriptors, and Singapore’s bands were developed for local conditions.
  3. Match the advice to the people taking part and to the activity’s duration and effort. If the reading changes or your plans are delayed, check again.

NEA says the 1-hour reading is intended to help with immediate choices such as whether to go for an outdoor walk or run. The National Environment Agency and Ministry of Health also advise people planning activities within the same day to monitor the latest reading and check again before proceeding. NEA air-quality FAQ NEA and MOH announcement, 13 July 2020

For tomorrow or an event lasting several hours

  1. When NEA issues them during a haze period, check the 24-hour PSI forecast and its health advisory while planning.
  2. Use the advisory for the relevant health group and planned activity to decide whether to adjust, shorten or move the event indoors.
  3. On the day, check the latest 1-hour PM2.5 reading before setting out and apply its personal guide to the immediate decision.

NEA describes the 24-hour forecast as less volatile and more useful for next-day planning and prolonged events than the changing hourly concentration. NEA air-quality FAQ

What PSI categories and activity advice mean

Singapore’s 24-hour PSI categories are:

Category 24-hour PSI
Good 0–50
Moderate 51–100
Unhealthy 101–200
Very Unhealthy 201–300
Hazardous Above 300

At Unhealthy PSI, guidance differs by group: healthy people should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor exertion; elderly people, pregnant women and children should minimise it; and people with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid it. Advice becomes more restrictive at higher PSI categories. “Prolonged” means continuous exposure for several hours; “strenuous” describes activity requiring substantial energy or effort. Check the current NEA/MOH guidance for the full advice for each group instead of applying a single rule to everyone. NEA guidance on managing haze MOH haze guidance

How to read a reported number in context

Read a PM2.5 concentration together with its band and personal guide, and read a PSI number together with its category and health advisory. The values are not directly interchangeable: one is an hourly concentration of a single pollutant; the other is a 24-hour index covering six pollutants. Use the guidance attached to the particular measure rather than inferring activity advice from the number alone.
