Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo check the RAM timings Windows 11 is currently using, open CPU-Z and read the Memory tab. Use its SPD tab separately to see the timing profiles stored on each memory module: a listed profile is not proof that it is active.
Check current RAM timings with CPU-Z
CPUID says CPU-Z is fully supported on Windows 11 and reports memory type, timings, real-time frequency, and module SPD specifications. The fields available can vary with the system and memory support.
-
Download CPU-Z from the official CPUID page and launch it.
-
Open the Memory tab. Record the memory type, channel information if shown, and DRAM Frequency.

Note the primary timing fields, usually CL, tRCD, tRP, and tRAS. These are the currently reported operating values, not a promise that every other system will show the same numbers.
CL (CAS latency) is a count of memory clock cycles. The other common fields are tRCD (RAS-to-CAS delay), tRP (row precharge), and tRAS (active-to-precharge interval). A cycle count alone does not give elapsed latency in nanoseconds; the memory clock also matters.

Check stored profiles on the SPD tab
-
Select SPD in CPU-Z.
-
Choose each populated slot in turn and inspect its module details and timing table or profile entries, if available.
-
Compare a profile’s values with the current values on the Memory tab. SPD describes information stored on a module; it does not establish that a profile is enabled or currently running. Slot labels and available data may vary by system.

- G.SKILL Flare X5 Series DDR5 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5
- Non-ECC, DDR5 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
- Includes JEDEC default profile, and AMD EXPO & Intel XMP 3.0 memory overclock profile
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
This distinction is useful when checking XMP. A profile shown under SPD is an advertised or stored option; check the Memory tab for the live reported timings. Whether a system offers XMP, labels it that way, or can run a particular profile depends on the memory and platform. Intel’s guide notes that a faster profile may not work on every system.
Understand frequency and DDR data rate
CPU-Z’s DRAM Frequency is a memory clock reading. DDR transfers data twice per clock cycle, so a marketed DDR data-rate figure may be roughly twice the DRAM Frequency number. Compare clock with clock, or data rate with data rate, rather than treating those labels as interchangeable.

For illustration, Intel’s 2018 guide for a specific NUC shows CPU-Z reporting a DRAM Frequency of 1496.7 MHz alongside a 2993 MHz-class DDR4 setting. This is an example for that platform, not a universal result for Windows 11 PCs. Intel recommends CPU-Z as one way to confirm speed in that guide: Intel NUC8i7HxK Overclocking Assistant.

Microsoft documents a Task Manager memory-reporting issue caused by SMBIOS parsing for affected supported Windows Server versions. That warning is scoped to Windows Server; it does not establish a Windows 11-wide defect. If Task Manager’s speed conflicts with firmware or a timing utility, cross-check the values before drawing a conclusion. Microsoft’s explanation of the Server issue.
BIOS/UEFI: firmware-side check
If the live timings differ from what you expected, restart the computer and enter its BIOS/UEFI setup. Look for a memory, overclocking, or profile page; exact names and available options are manufacturer-specific, so there is no reliable universal menu path. Intel’s 2018 NUC guide demonstrates firmware memory controls for that particular NUC and should not be treated as instructions for other PCs. Avoid changing a setting unless you understand its effect.
Is XMP enabled?
Use CPU-Z’s SPD tab to identify stored profile entries, then compare their timing values with the live values on Memory. If the current values align with the profile you expected, that is useful evidence about the operating configuration, but the profile listing alone does not prove it is enabled. For a firmware-side confirmation, inspect the relevant profile setting in BIOS/UEFI; its availability and label depend on the platform.
Does Windows System Information show RAM timings?
Windows 11 includes System Information, which you can open by searching for System Information or running msinfo32. It provides a broad hardware and software inventory, but Microsoft’s command reference does not document it as a way to view active memory timings. For the timing fields, use CPU-Z’s Memory tab.
