Check your record at Michigan.gov/Vote. If you have moved within Michigan, update your voter-registration address with your new residential information. The method depends on how soon Election Day is: online, mail, and in-person options are available at least 15 days before the election; during the final 14 days, including Election Day, you must update in person at your local clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.
Check your Michigan voter registration
- Go to Michigan.gov/Vote and look up your voter registration status.
- Use the portal’s clerk lookup to find your local clerk if you need to correct your record or register in person. You can also call or visit your city or township clerk.
The Michigan Department of State says voters can check their registration status and look up local clerk information at Michigan.gov/Vote. The lookup can show your record, but it cannot establish your status or assigned clerk for you without your using the official service.
Update your address after a move within Michigan
Re-register using your new residential address. Michigan provides online, mail, and in-person registration options when the election is at least 15 days away. For online registration, you need a Michigan driver’s license, Michigan state ID, or the last four digits of your Social Security number. See the state’s registration instructions for the available methods.
You can also update your address through the Michigan Department of State’s license or ID address-change process. The two address records are linked: changing your license or ID address updates your voter-registration address, and changing your voter-registration address updates the address on your state ID or driver’s license. Details are on the state’s address-change page.

Choose the update method based on Election Day
Do not rely on an online or mailed update for an election once the final 14-day period has begun. Michigan’s options differ by timing:
| When you update | Available method for that election | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| At least 15 days before Election Day | Online, by mail, or in person | Online registration requires a Michigan driver’s license, state ID, or the last four digits of a Social Security number. |
| Within 14 days before Election Day, including Election Day | In person at your local clerk’s office | Bring proof of residency. The state allows registration or an address update through 8 p.m. on Election Day. |
For the November 3, 2026 general election, the Michigan Department of State lists October 19, 2026, as the last day to register online or by mail. In-person registration is listed for October 20 through November 3. These dates apply to that election; check the state’s elections page for the calendar relevant to the election you plan to vote in.

What happens if you update at the clerk during the final 14 days?
After registering or updating your address at the clerk’s office, you may vote there by absentee ballot, or at your polling place if time allows. The state’s Election Day voting guidance explains the same-day clerk process and proof-of-residency requirement. Contact your clerk if you need to confirm where and how you can vote after the update.

If your move was to another state, Michigan’s registration guidance says you may request cancellation in writing from your city or township clerk. This is different from an in-state move, where you update your address using your new Michigan residence.
