Check your phone’s security patch level in Settings, then compare the exact model with its manufacturer’s support policy. The Settings date shows the patch installed on your phone; the manufacturer’s policy tells you whether that model is still promised updates. A single check that finds no update does not prove support has ended.
Find your Android security patch level
- Open Settings > About phone > Android version. The path and labels may vary by manufacturer.
- Note the Android version, Android security update date or level, and Google Play system update date or level. Android Help says these status values appear in Settings: Check and update your Android version.
- Keep the Android security update and Google Play system update entries separate. They are distinct status values, not interchangeable dates.
The Android security update entry reports the patch level installed on the phone. It does not, by itself, say whether the manufacturer still supports the model.
Check whether an update is available
- Open Settings > System > Software Update, then follow the status and any on-screen instructions.
- If those labels are not present, search Settings for “software update” or check the manufacturer’s support instructions. Samsung, Motorola and other manufacturers may use different menu names and layouts.
- If an update is offered, follow the phone’s instructions to install it. Check the Android security update date again afterward.
This screen checks for an update available to your phone now. A “no update available” result is not the same as an official end-of-support notice.
Verify support for your exact phone model
- In Settings > About phone, find the model name and model number. Record the regional or carrier variant if shown.
- Look up that exact model on the manufacturer’s official update or support page. If the policy or model information is unclear, contact the manufacturer or your carrier.
- Compare the policy’s stated support duration or end date with the model’s first availability and any regional or variant conditions. A support clock may start when the model first became available, not when you bought your particular phone.
Google directs owners of non-Pixel Android phones to their manufacturer or carrier for update information; Pixel support periods should not be applied to other brands. See Google Pixel update policy.

How to interpret the result
Your patch date is older than the current month
An older date alone does not establish that the model has lost support. Check the model-specific policy and whether the manufacturer has announced an end date. Update schedules vary, and policies can depend on model and region.
Your phone says no update is available
That result only reports that the check did not find an update available to your device at that moment. For Pixel phones, Google says updates roll out gradually, can depend on carrier and device, and may take a few weeks to reach a device. That is a Pixel-specific example; other manufacturers set their own schedules. If your phone is within its stated support period, check the manufacturer’s rollout guidance or contact the manufacturer or carrier.

Use the policy for your model, not a brand-wide assumption
Google’s published policy, as presented in 2026, says Pixel 8 and later receive seven years of OS and security updates, counted from when each device first became available on the Google Store in the US. It lists Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 family devices and Pixel Fold for five years from that first-availability date, and Pixel 5a and earlier as no longer receiving Android version or security updates. Check Google’s live page for the exact model list and current terms.
Manufacturer records can also identify a specific variant and patch level rather than establish a universal schedule. For example, Samsung’s notice for the Galaxy A06 (SM-A065M) identifies Android 16 and security patch level 2026-07-05. That notice applies to the cited model and variant; it should not be taken as the patch date or cadence for every Samsung phone or region. Android’s September 2026 Security Bulletin points readers to Android’s guidance for checking a device’s patch level, but does not determine whether a particular manufacturer still supports a particular phone.

What to do if support has ended
If the manufacturer confirms that your exact model has reached its security-update end date, treat it as no longer receiving promised security patches. You can keep using the phone, but do not assume that a newer Android version or Google Play system update replaces the manufacturer’s model-level security support. If you are choosing a replacement, compare the stated security-support duration, when that clock starts, the exact regional or carrier model, and its current price and availability.
