You can manually check for a Pixel Watch update from Settings → System → System updates. Google does not document a guaranteed way to force an update that has not yet been offered to your watch; if the screen says it is up to date, no update is available to that check at that time.
Prepare your Pixel Watch
Google recommends these conditions for the best update experience:
- Place the watch on its charger.
- Make sure the battery is at least 50%.
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi.
Check for and install an update
- On the watch, swipe down and tap Settings → System → System updates.
- Wait while the watch checks for an update. If one is available, follow the on-screen prompts.
- Let installation finish. The watch may show a preparing message, restart, and install the software. You cannot use it during installation.
Google says updates typically finish in under an hour. If the process takes longer, use Google’s Pixel Watch update troubleshooting instructions.
What to do if the watch will not update
Try Google’s update-specific troubleshooting sequence before considering more disruptive steps:

- Hold the crown and side button together for 20 seconds, then wait for the watch to reboot fully.
- On the watch, open Settings → Connectivity. Turn Bluetooth off and Wi-Fi on.
- Return to Settings → System → System updates and check again.
Why does my Pixel Watch say it is up to date?
That message means the check did not find an update currently offered to your watch. Google’s instructions explain how to check for pending updates and troubleshoot a failed update, but do not promise a way to install a release before it is offered to your device. Google says a watch automatically updates to the latest version during setup, but that setup behavior does not establish that all existing watches receive each release at the same time.
A Google Pixel Watch Community post suggests repeatedly tapping the checkmark on the System updates screen. That is community advice, not an official or reliable method for forcing a rollout.

Check which version is installed
On the watch, open Settings → System → About → Versions to view version details. Google’s update instructions say the build number and Android security update level appear under About → Versions → Build number. The support information cited here does not establish the current latest build or a rollout schedule.

Do not start with a factory reset to solve an update that has not appeared. Google’s update-specific troubleshooting starts with a reboot, changing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings, and checking again. A reset erases apps, settings, and data, so reserve it for persistent device problems where a reset is otherwise appropriate; see Google’s Pixel Watch troubleshooting guidance.
