On your Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. If the menu wording differs or no update appears, check the software version on the device and consult Samsung’s support information for your country and the carrier tied to your device. Updates can roll out at different times by model, country, and carrier, so a “no update available” result describes your device’s current eligibility—not every Galaxy in your region.
Check for an update in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update. Depending on the model, software version, or carrier, it may be called System updates or be located elsewhere in Settings.
- Tap Download and install. Some devices show an extra Check for system updates or Check for software updates step.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it. Choose a time when you can leave the device unused: it will be temporarily unavailable, including for calls, while the update installs.
Samsung notes that available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version, and model. See Samsung’s Galaxy update instructions.
Find your model’s current software version
Open Settings > About phone or About tablet > Software information. Note the installed software details when comparing your device with an update notice or carrier release listing. Samsung’s update information and history in Settings can also describe what an installed update changed; those details may vary by model, country, and service provider.
Why an update may not be available yet
- Model and software version: update versions and even the screens used to check for them differ across Galaxy models and software versions.
- Country and purchase location: Samsung’s guidance can be region-specific. Its Hong Kong support page says models, sequences, and settings can differ by location or where the product was purchased. Use the support information for the country where the device is used: Samsung Hong Kong’s update guidance.
- Carrier: carriers may have their own release schedules and update notes. Samsung says that for a device originally sold by a particular carrier—even if it is now unlocked—that original carrier handles updates.
- Staged releases: an announcement does not mean every eligible device receives the update at once. Samsung says updates may be distributed in waves.
- Schedule changes: Samsung India’s One UI schedule, updated October 1, 2026, says eligible models and dates can change during review, and an update may be paused for an emergency fix. Supported functions and schedules also depend on model, country, or network operator. Check the current Samsung India One UI schedule for India-specific information.
If the expected update is missing
- Connect to Wi-Fi and check again. Some carriers require Wi-Fi to check for or install an update.
- Check the original carrier’s release information. Look for the exact device’s update history or release notes on the carrier’s support site. Samsung also notes that some SIM-unlocked devices may need a SIM from the original carrier to download an update.
- Allow for rollout timing. If the carrier has announced a release but the phone does not offer it yet, the rollout may not have reached your device.
- Try Smart Switch on a computer. Connect the Galaxy device to a Windows PC or Mac with a USB cable, open Samsung Smart Switch, and select Update if that option appears. Keep the cable connected and do not use the device until the update completes. A cable included with the device may work; the usual Settings check requires no accessory.
- If installation fails, reconnect and retry. Samsung says an interrupted network connection can cause an update failure. Its software update troubleshooting guidance covers carrier releases, Wi-Fi, SIM requirements, and Smart Switch.
Choose the right way to check

These routes can show whether an update is available to that device at that time; none establishes that every Galaxy model or region has received a release. Samsung’s Canada One UI update guidance likewise notes that availability can vary by model, carrier, and network.
