Meta says you can ask Muse to forget a specific detail and can inspect or edit files in your personal Muse virtual machine, including memory files. Meta has not published a screen-by-screen route or established that either action deletes all memory, conversation history, or backups. The documented controls apply to a person’s Muse data; the sources do not say that one household member can view or manage another’s.
Ask Muse to forget a specific detail
-
Open Muse in the app or web product you use and tell it plainly which detail you want forgotten—for example, “Forget that I work night shifts.” Meta’s September 8, 2026 launch announcement says people can tell Muse to forget specific things it has learned. Meta’s Muse launch announcement
-
Be specific about the detail. Meta documents this as a way to forget particular learned information, not as a guarantee that every copy, related conversation, or associated data is removed.
Inspect or edit Muse memory files
Meta says each person has a dedicated cloud virtual machine (VM) where their files and generated or used data are stored. Meta’s safety article says you can inspect and edit files there, including Muse memory, and download them. Tarek Sheasha, Software Engineer and VP at Meta Superintelligence Labs, wrote: “You can inspect, edit and download these files freely, including Muse’s memory about you.” Meta AI Research: “How We Built Safety Into Muse” (September 8, 2026).

To look for the current controls, open Muse in the app or web product and locate its VM or file-management interface. Meta’s article does not give a menu path, label, or specific deletion interaction, so an exact sequence cannot be confirmed here. If you edit a memory file, that is not evidence that all related copies or backups have been erased: Meta says VM data is continuously backed up so it can be restored if something goes wrong, but does not state a deletion or backup-retention timeline.
Keep memory, connected apps, and training preferences separate
Forgetting a detail does not disconnect services or opt you out of model training. Meta describes those as separate controls:

Connected services: Meta says you choose which apps Muse connects to and can change access or disconnect a service at any time. Review this separately if you do not want Muse using a connected app. Meta’s Muse launch announcement

Model training: Meta says interactions may be used to train AI models and describes an opt-out in Muse settings. Its safety article says inference data—including conversations, tool calls, and subagent handoffs—can be used to train model checkpoints after key personally identifiable information is sanitized, unless you opt out. What Meta says about privacy—and what remains unclear
Meta says conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems. Separately, it notes that activity through Muse, such as visiting a merchant’s website, may be visible to that merchant and could indirectly affect ads. These are distinct from Meta’s stated use of sanitized inference data for model training.
The reviewed Meta materials do not establish a procedure or outcome for deleting all remembered information, erasing conversation history, or removing another household member’s data. They also do not explain whether household members can access shared memory or manage one another’s VM. Treat the controls as personal rather than household-wide, and check Muse’s current in-product options or Meta support instructions if you need broader deletion or another person’s data addressed. Meta also cautions that Muse can make mistakes and that prompt injection remains an open problem; that is not evidence of a particular memory-deletion failure.
