For an Indian IPO, check the result on the registrar’s official page for that issue or through the NSE IPO bid/allotment verification route listed in SEBI’s securities-market resource directory. Enter the application or investor details requested on that page. A UPI mandate message or bank balance change is not, by itself, proof that shares were allotted.

Where to check an IPO allotment result

Use an official result channel: the IPO’s registrar page named in that issue’s offer materials, or the NSE IPO bid/allotment verification destination listed in SEBI’s securities-market resource directory. SEBI describes a registrar to an issue as an intermediary that provides allotment details and clarification.

Choose the page for the specific IPO. Registrars and exchange pages can differ, so do not assume that a third-party result site or a lookup page for another issue has the authoritative result or the right fields.

What details to have ready

Follow the selected page’s current prompt and enter the identifier it requests. The required fields are not necessarily uniform across registrars and exchange pages, so there is no single field list that applies to every IPO lookup. Check the issue name and your application details carefully before submitting.

How to understand the result and your money

The allotment result answers whether shares were allocated to your application. The payment record answers what happened to the funds or mandate. These are related but separate records.

If shares were allotted

With ASBA, the application amount is blocked in your account while the application is pending. If shares are allotted, the amount required for the allotted shares is debited. SEBI’s Apply in IPO through ASBA guidance explains: “In ASBA, money to the extent of price of the shares for which the investor has applied, is blocked, but it remains in their account till allotment.”

If no shares were allotted

For a non-allotment, the blocked amount should be released; SEBI says no refund is needed under ASBA because the funds were blocked rather than transferred. UPI applications follow the same broad block-then-debit-or-unblock pattern.

What a UPI or bank message tells you

A UPI mandate approval confirms authorization for funds to be blocked, not that shares were allotted. SEBI says UPI investors are notified of a debit, while communication about the share-allotment process is separate. Allotment status or advice may also arrive by email or SMS after the process is completed, but use the official result channel to verify the allocation itself.

If the result and payment records do not match

  1. Recheck the official result. Confirm that you selected the correct IPO and used the application details requested by that issue’s registrar or the official exchange lookup.
  2. Keep your records together. Retain your application information and, for a UPI application, the Unique Mandate Number (UMN), along with relevant bank or UPI messages.
  3. Contact the party responsible for the discrepancy. For allotment information, contact the registrar or lead manager. For a UPI debit or mandate issue, SEBI identifies the lead manager, bank, registrar, and UPI app as complaint routes. Include your application details and UMN where relevant.

SEBI’s investor guidance states a ₹5 lakh per-transaction limit for UPI IPO applications by retail individual investors and says a third-party UPI ID or bank account will not be considered for allocation. These are application-process rules, not clues about whether a particular application received shares; confirm current requirements for the issue.
