Amazon price-history tools can show whether a product’s current Amazon price is low compared with its recorded prices. They do not establish that the price is the lowest available at nearby shops: even Keepa’s barcode scanner is described as checking online prices while you are in a store, not tracking every retailer’s shelf prices.
How do I check Amazon price history?
Start with Amazon’s built-in Alexa for Shopping feature. Amazon says shoppers can ask questions such as “What’s the price history?” and view 30-, 90- and 365-day history where the feature is available. Check the current product listing and feature availability, since rollout and eligible product coverage can change. Amazon’s instructions and availability details are the best place to confirm what you can see.
Amazon says the feature is available to customers in the U.S., UK, Canada and India. Its page describes the 365-day history as rolling out in the U.S., UK and India; that statement does not establish the same 365-day availability in Canada. Amazon also reports that more than 50 million customers have used price history since its 2024 launch and that the average customer checks it three times a month. Use a third-party chart or alert
Keepa provides Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts on its price-tracker site. Its Chrome extension listing describes charts embedded on supported Amazon product pages and alerts. The Keepa mobile app listing describes price and availability alerts, product search and a barcode scanner that checks online prices while you are in a retail store. Its listing names Amazon locales, but the existence of a scanner does not mean it records or compares every local shop’s shelf price.

CamelCamelCamel is another Amazon-focused option. It describes price-history charts, email alerts for watched prices and a browser extension called The Camelizer. Choose an alert tool if you want to monitor a target price; use a chart to inspect recorded price movement before buying.
Was this Amazon sale price higher last month?
Check the chart’s time range and the same product listing. A 30-day view can help answer whether the price was higher or lower over roughly the past month; longer views add context for seasonal or less frequent changes. Amazon’s built-in feature offers 30-, 90- and 365-day views where available. Keepa and CamelCamelCamel also describe historical charts, but the cited descriptions do not establish identical time windows across their products.

Amazon’s reference prices need careful interpretation. Its Typical or “Was” Price is the median price paid on Amazon during the previous 90 days, excluding prices paid during a limited-time deal. Its List Price is a validated price that can be found on Amazon and at other retailers. These are different benchmarks: neither one, by itself, proves that today’s price is the lowest price at a local store. Amazon explains how it defines List Price and Typical/Was Price.
Is this really the lowest price?
A price-history chart answers a narrower question: how the recorded price compares with earlier recorded prices for that product. It cannot guarantee that the current price is the lowest available, that every promotion appears in the history, or that waiting will bring a lower price. Compare like with like before treating a chart or sale label as a reason to buy.

- Exact product: Match the model, size, color, bundle and other specifications. A similar-looking listing may be a different item.
- Condition and seller: Compare new with new, or used with the same condition, and account for who is selling the item.
- Final cost: Include shipping and any coupon, membership or other purchase terms that apply to you.
- Timing: A short history window may miss earlier price changes. Use a longer available view when you need more context.
Amazon describes its own pricing approach in terms of offering “genuine deals,” but that is the retailer’s characterization, not independent verification that every displayed deal is the best available. Amazon’s explanation of its deal references
Can I compare Amazon with local stores?
Not comprehensively with the tools documented here. Keepa’s app describes scanning a barcode in a retail-store setting to check online prices. That can help you compare online listings with an item you are considering in person, but its description does not say that Keepa tracks local shelf prices or covers every nearby retailer. The available descriptions of Amazon’s feature and CamelCamelCamel are Amazon-centered as well.

For a useful manual comparison, scan or search the exact product, then compare the store’s current price with the online listing’s final cost. Confirm the model and condition, seller, shipping, and any coupon or membership requirement. A barcode match is a starting point, not proof that two offers have identical terms.

All three can add context to an Amazon purchase, but none is established by these descriptions as a universal tracker for Amazon and every local shop. Treat the history as evidence about recorded prices—not a promise of the best deal now or later.
