To change a browser homepage, open its home-page settings and enter the site you want. In Edge, find the control under Start, home, and new tab page; in Firefox, use Home settings; in Chrome, use Appearance to set the page opened by the Home button. Chrome’s startup page is a separate setting, so change that too if you want a specific page to appear when Chrome launches.
Homepage and startup page are not always the same
A homepage is generally the page opened by a browser’s Home button. A startup page is what appears when the browser launches. Chrome keeps these as separate settings: changing its homepage does not automatically change its startup behavior.
Change your homepage in Microsoft Edge
These steps apply to the new Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and Windows 11, as described by Microsoft Support.
- Open Edge and select Settings and more (the three-dot menu), then select Settings.
- Select Start, home, and new tab page.
- Turn on Show home button on the toolbar.
- Choose New tab page, or choose the option to enter a URL and type the address you want.
The Home button must be enabled on the toolbar to use it. This setting does not, by itself, specify what appears whenever Edge starts.

Set a homepage in Firefox
Mozilla’s Firefox instructions, last updated June 3, 2026, offer several homepage choices and note that the Home button is not displayed by default. The settings route works whether or not that button is visible.
- Open the Firefox menu and select Settings (called Preferences in some cases).
- Select Home.
- Beside Homepage and new windows, open the drop-down and choose Custom URLs….
- Enter the address you want to use.
Other choices are Firefox Home (Default) and Blank page. Firefox also lets you open a site and drag its tab onto the Home button, then accept the prompt. You can use multiple homepage URLs if you want more than one page.

Change your homepage in Google Chrome
On desktop Chrome, the homepage setting controls the page opened by the Home button. Google’s computer instructions use this route:
- Open More > Settings.
- Under Appearance, turn on Show Home button.
- Under that control, choose the New Tab page or a custom page, then enter the address you want.
Choose what opens when Chrome starts
To control the page shown at launch, open Chrome Settings and find On startup. Google lists three choices: open a new tab, continue where you left off, or open a specific page or set of pages. Choose the last option and enter the page or pages if you want Chrome to launch at a particular website. Set both this option and the homepage if you want the Home button and startup behavior to match.

Change Chrome’s homepage on Android
Google documents a separate Android route: open More > Settings > Advanced > Homepage, then choose Chrome’s homepage or enter a custom page. Google says the homepage feature is available on computers and Android, but not on iPhone or iPad. See the Android instructions for details.

If the homepage setting will not stick
- Chrome changes unexpectedly: Google says unwanted software may be involved if the homepage, startup page, or search engine changes without your input. On a work or school Chromebook, an administrator may control homepage and startup settings. See Google’s computer instructions.
- Firefox opens extra pages: Check whether more than one URL is set under Homepage and new windows. Mozilla also recommends checking extensions that may control the homepage and the browser shortcut for an added link. Its homepage guide explains the settings.
- The option is missing: Confirm the device and browser before following a route. Edge’s cited steps cover Windows 10 and 11, Firefox’s are for Firefox settings, and Chrome’s homepage control has different mobile availability.
