Chrome has no general browser setting that changes its time zone. For everyday browsing, change the time zone in your computer’s system settings or on your Chromebook. To test a website in another time zone, use Chrome DevTools; a browser extension is another, more limited option for supported pages. These methods are different from changing Chrome’s permission to share your location.
Choose the method that matches what you need
| Method | What it affects | Best for | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| System or ChromeOS time zone | The device time zone used by Chrome and other apps | Everyday use | Operating-system controls vary, and device policy may restrict changes. ChromeOS policy reference |
| Chrome DevTools emulation | Location and time-zone values used in a testing session | Website development and QA | It does not change the device clock or network location. Chrome DevTools Locations documentation |
| Chrome extension | Time-zone behavior on supported pages | Page-specific behavior when its limitations fit | Extension compatibility and API limits apply; it does not change the system time zone, IP address, or physical location. Chrome Web Store listing |
Chrome’s site-location permission is a separate privacy control, not a way to set a time zone.
Change the time zone for everyday browsing
Change the time zone in your device’s date-and-time settings. Chrome uses the system time zone, so this affects other apps on the device too. The exact controls depend on your operating system and version; use the current date-and-time settings interface for your computer.
On a Chromebook
Open the Chromebook’s device settings and change the time zone there. ChromeOS has controls for the system time zone and automatic time-zone detection. On a school- or work-managed Chromebook, an administrator may set those controls by policy; if the setting is unavailable or keeps reverting, contact the administrator. See the ChromeOS policy reference.

Emulate a time zone for website testing in DevTools
For development or QA, Chrome DevTools lets you create a location preset with a time-zone ID and select it for testing. This emulates values exposed to the page; it does not change the computer’s clock or the network location a service may infer from your IP address.

For the documented preset fields and workflow, see Chrome DevTools Locations. Use the override to check how a page handles time-zone-dependent dates or location behavior, then disable it when testing is complete.

The Chrome Web Store listing for “Timezone Override” describes global or per-site rules for emulating time-zone APIs on supported pages. The listing says Chrome 125 or newer is required and that the extension does not change the device time zone, IP address, or physical location. It also notes that workers and native formatters created before the override may keep their original time zone. These are statements from the listing, not independent compatibility testing.

When you allow a request, Chrome Help says an estimate from Google Location Services can be shared with the site. This permission does not make a site use a different time zone. On Windows or Mac, system location settings may also need to be enabled, and a work or school administrator may manage the setting. See Manage your location settings in Chrome.
