To customize Microsoft Edge, open Settings and more (…) > Settings. Use Appearance for visual options and Start, home, and new tab page for what Edge shows when it opens. Privacy, extensions, language, sync, and accessibility settings are in other areas, and their labels can vary as Edge updates.
Change Edge’s appearance

Select Settings and more (…) in the browser toolbar, then choose Settings > Appearance.

Review the controls available in your installation. Microsoft lists options such as light, dark, or system theme; toolbar layout and buttons; font size; and page zoom. Depending on the Edge version, you may also find font choices and a default theme.

Adjust the settings to suit your preference. For example, a larger font or page zoom can make content easier to read, while changing the theme or toolbar buttons alters the browser’s appearance. The available choices can differ by version. See Microsoft’s guide to changing Edge’s appearance.

Choose what Edge displays at startup and on the home button
Open Settings > Start, home, and new tab page to configure what appears when Edge starts and how the home button behaves.
Set the startup page
Use the startup controls on this page to choose what Edge displays when it starts. The exact choices and labels may depend on the installed version.
Set the home button
Turn on Show home button, then choose whether it opens the new-tab page or a custom URL. A custom URL is useful if you want the home button to open a particular website.

Personalize the new-tab page
Open a new tab and select its page-settings control. From there, Microsoft says you can adjust the page layout, background image, quick links, and other options. Where feed controls are available, you can also personalize the interests shown. These page-specific settings are separate from the startup and home-button controls. Choose a tracking-prevention level
Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services and find tracking prevention. Edge offers three levels. The choice balances tracker blocking against site compatibility and personalization. Microsoft explains tracking prevention and its levels.

If a trusted site does not work under your chosen level, you can add an exception for it. That exception allows all trackers on the site, including potentially harmful ones, so use it only when you trust the site and need the exception.

Select Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge to browse Edge’s add-on source.

To install a compatible extension from the Chrome Web Store, allow extensions from other stores if Edge prompts you, then follow the store’s installation steps.

Review the permissions an extension requests before installing it. Grant access only if it makes sense for the extension’s purpose.
Turn off or remove an extension
Open Manage extensions to disable an extension you want to keep but not use, or remove it from Edge if you no longer need it. Microsoft’s extension instructions describe these actions.

Adjust accessibility, language, and sync
Accessibility
Edge supports several ways to change how you read or navigate content. Depending on your needs and system configuration, useful options include Windows high-contrast themes, text scaling, captions, keyboard navigation, shortcut tooltips, and caret browsing. Microsoft also documents screen-reader compatibility, including Narrator, JAWS, and NVDA in its testing context. Read Microsoft’s accessibility overview.

Language and translation
Edge’s language settings let you manage preferred languages and translation. The available controls and their placement can vary, so consult the browser’s current settings if you do not see the same labels as in Microsoft’s overview.
Sync and other features
After signing in with the same Microsoft account, you can use sync to carry supported browser information across devices. Edge also includes features such as Collections and Immersive Reader; availability and details depend on the current version and device. Microsoft’s Edge overview points to these capabilities.
Why your settings may look different
Microsoft rolls out Edge changes gradually, and some settings or labels differ by version. If a path in this guide does not match your browser, open Settings and more (…) > Settings and look for the section named for the feature you want to change. Microsoft’s instructions also note that appearance options can differ or be unavailable depending on the Edge version. Check the current appearance guidance.
