To capture content that appears only as you scroll, first scroll through the parts of the page you need so the site can load them, then take a full-page screenshot. In Playwright, fullPage: true captures the page’s full scrollable area, but that capture does not necessarily scroll the visible page or trigger scroll-dependent loading. For an infinite feed, choose a stopping point—such as a target item count—because there may be no final bottom.
Why a full-page screenshot can miss content
Playwright describes a full-page screenshot as an image of the full scrollable page, “as if you had a very tall screen and the page could fit it entirely” (Playwright Screenshots documentation). That is useful when the content is already in the document. It is not the same as scrolling the page in the browser.
Some sites request or insert content only after scrolling brings a section into view. A Playwright project issue explains that a full-page capture can render beyond the viewport without the visual viewport scrolling, so JavaScript that depends on scroll events may not run (Playwright issue #40941). The issue proposes an option to load scroll-triggered content; it is a proposal, not a released Playwright option. Do not rely on a loadLazyContent setting.
There are two different limits to keep in mind: the document’s current scroll height, and content the site has not yet requested or inserted. A screenshot can include the former while still missing the latter.

Capture an infinite-scroll page with Playwright
For repeatable captures, use a real scroll pass before the final screenshot. The example below scrolls in viewport-sized steps, waits briefly between steps, and stops after a configured number of rounds without an increase in document height or at the configured round limit. These are safeguards, not universal signals that the site has finished loading: a feed may add items without changing height immediately, or may keep loading indefinitely. Set the boundary for the page you are capturing, inspect the result, and adjust the wait and stop rule to the site.

Install Playwright and its Chromium browser in your project with npm install playwright and npx playwright install chromium. Save this as capture.js, replace the example URL, and run it with node capture.js.

});The script intentionally uses a bounded loop: a page that never stops loading cannot be scrolled “to the end.” For a reliable capture, replace height stability with a site-specific target where possible—for example, stop after a known number of cards appears or after a particular section is visible. If the site loads content only after a specific interaction, reproduce that interaction too. The Playwright Page API reference documents screenshot options and related page operations.
Check the output
- Open the image and confirm the last required section or item is present; a stable height alone does not prove that the intended content loaded.
- Look for blank gaps, duplicate sections, or unloaded images. If present, change the site-specific wait or stopping condition and capture again.
- For visual-regression work, remember that scrolling can change page state, such as triggering animations, sticky elements, or additional content. Keep the scroll sequence and boundary consistent between runs.
Choose a capture method for the page

Manual browser workflow for a one-off thumbnail
- Open the page in your browser and scroll down through every section you need in the thumbnail.
- Pause as needed for new cards, images, or sections to appear. For an endless feed, stop at a deliberate boundary rather than assuming there is a final bottom.
- Use a browser or screenshot utility that supports full-page capture. The exact control varies; a generic full-page command should not be assumed to trigger the site’s loading behavior.
- Inspect the saved image for missing or repeated content before using it.

The bottom of the screenshot is blank or missing cards
The page may not have requested those items before capture. Scroll through the required region and wait for the content to appear; use a known item count or target element to define completion instead of relying only on document height.

The script stops while the feed is still loading
Height may remain unchanged during a request or between batches. Increase the site-specific wait or stable-round allowance, or use a selector/count that reflects the content you need. Do not increase limits without bound on a page that can continue forever.

The feed may have no natural end, or the current stopping rule may not match its behavior. Set a practical boundary, such as a target section, item count, or maximum scroll depth, and capture that portion.

The screenshot has duplicate or shifted content
Scrolling can trigger sticky headers, animations, or page updates. Use a consistent viewport and scroll sequence, return to the intended starting position before the final capture, and inspect the resulting image.
Cost and reliability considerations
Playwright’s direct full-page call is appropriate when the document already contains the content. For scroll-triggered pages, reliability depends on the site-specific loading signal and your chosen boundary; neither a fixed delay nor a fixed number of steps works for every site. Infinite feeds also make “entire page” ambiguous, so define what portion the thumbnail should show. The reviewed Playwright documentation and issue do not establish a universal wait duration, guaranteed completion method, or success-rate statistic.
Automated capture is easier to repeat than manual scrolling, but consistent visual comparisons require keeping the viewport, scroll behavior, and stopping rule consistent. For occasional small captures, manual scrolling may be simpler. For a page that must be captured repeatedly, a bounded automation script with a target tied to the page’s content is easier to diagnose than an unbounded loop.

Does Playwright’s fullPage: true scroll through an infinite feed?
No. It captures the full scrollable page, but scroll-gated content may require an actual scroll pass first.
Can an infinite-scroll page always be captured in full?
Not if it has no natural end. Define a target boundary such as a particular section or item count.
