To capture a webpage as an image on a schedule, use Schedule by Zapier as the trigger and HTML to Image’s “Convert URL to Image (Screenshot a Website)” action. APITemplate.io’s documented Zapier workflow is for generating PDFs or images from reusable templates; its documentation does not establish arbitrary webpage-to-screenshot-image capture. If a PDF snapshot is acceptable, APITemplate.io also describes creating PDFs from URLs. The distinction is the output: a screenshot image of a webpage versus a generated document or template-based graphic.
Which Zapier workflow should you use?
Choose the Zap based on what you need to receive:
| Need | Documented route | What it produces |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot image of a webpage URL | Schedule by Zapier → HTML to Image | An image generated by the “Convert URL to Image (Screenshot a Website)” action. Zapier’s recipe lists full-page capture, wait time, and image quality options. |
| PDF created from a template and data | Zapier → APITemplate.io | A PDF generated using a selected template and JSON data. The documented Zapier tutorial describes returning a Download Url that can be used in a later step. APITemplate.io’s tutorial |
| PDF based on a webpage URL | APITemplate.io PDF-from-URL capability | APITemplate.io’s product page describes PDFs from URLs; that is a PDF use case, not evidence of a webpage screenshot image. APITemplate.io |
| Branded or data-driven image | Zapier → APITemplate.io image generation | An image created from a reusable template populated with workflow data. Image setup guide |
The steps below cover scheduled webpage screenshots using HTML to Image. If you specifically need an APITemplate.io PDF or template-generated image, use the separate workflow later in this guide.
Set up a recurring webpage screenshot with Zapier
- Create a Zap and select the trigger. Choose Schedule by Zapier and configure the schedule frequency and time that suit your capture cadence. Check the schedule’s timezone so the run occurs when expected.
- Add the screenshot action. Select HTML to Image and choose “Convert URL to Image (Screenshot a Website).” This action is listed for taking a screenshot from a webpage URL.
- Enter the target URL. Supply the full webpage address you want captured. Use the page URL itself, not an APITemplate.io template URL, unless that is the page you intend to capture.
- Set the available capture options. Enable full-page capture if you need more than the visible viewport; provide a wait time if the page needs time to render; and select an image-quality setting appropriate to your use. The exact available values and behavior are controlled by the current HTML to Image action.
- Test the action and review the result. Confirm the generated image is the intended page and that the selected options are appropriate before turning on the Zap.
- Turn on the Zap. The Schedule by Zapier trigger will run the capture on the cadence you selected. For a different cadence or local run time, adjust the schedule and its timezone settings.
Zapier’s published recipe establishes this trigger-and-action sequence and the listed options; it does not guarantee that every site will render exactly as it does in an authenticated browser session. Check the current action documentation or test your target page for authentication, dynamic content, access restrictions, and visual fidelity rather than assuming those cases are supported.

Generate a PDF using a template
APITemplate.io’s documented Zapier PDF tutorial uses a trigger followed by the APITemplate.io app and its “Create PDF by Using a Template” event. Connect the account with an API key, choose a template, map or provide sample JSON based on the template editor, and test the action. The returned Download Url can then be passed to a later Zap step—for example, a step that sends it as an email attachment.

That workflow generates a document from template data. It is not the same as sending a webpage URL to a screenshot action. See the APITemplate.io Zapier PDF tutorial.
Generate an image from a reusable template
For a branded or data-driven graphic, APITemplate.io’s image setup guide describes designing a reusable image template, testing JSON in its API console, and submitting overrides to generate the image. A Zap can trigger this kind of image generation from workflow data. This creates an image from the template; the documentation reviewed does not establish that it captures an arbitrary webpage as it appears in a browser. See Generate Your First Image.

Use APITemplate.io’s HTTP API for PDF generation
APITemplate.io’s integration overview documents a generic HTTP method that sends a POST request to its v2 PDF endpoint with an X-API-KEY header, a JSON content type, and JSON data. It also describes an asynchronous request followed by a webhook notification containing a download URL. Consult the integrations overview for the current endpoint details and request schema before building that route.
Protect the APITemplate.io API key
- Log in to APITemplate.io.
- Open API Integration and copy the key, as described in Get Your API Key.
- Use the key to connect the APITemplate.io account in Zapier or place it in the API request’s
X-API-KEYheader when using the documented HTTP method. - Keep the key private: do not publish it or commit it to version control. If it is exposed, treat it as compromised and follow the account’s current process for replacing or revoking it.
Common problems and what to check
- You get a generated graphic or PDF instead of a webpage screenshot. Check which app and action the Zap uses. APITemplate.io template actions generate output from template data; use HTML to Image’s “Convert URL to Image (Screenshot a Website)” action for the documented webpage URL-to-image route.
- The scheduled capture runs at an unexpected time. Review the Schedule by Zapier frequency and timezone settings, then test against the intended run time.
- The screenshot is incomplete or captures content before it appears. Check whether full-page capture is enabled and whether the action’s wait-time option gives the page enough time to render. The recipe lists these options but does not establish a universal wait time for all sites.
- The action does not show the expected page or cannot access it. Verify that the URL is correct and publicly reachable in the conditions used by the action. Do not assume that login-protected, blocked, or otherwise restricted pages are supported; confirm behavior in the current service documentation or with a test.
- The APITemplate.io Zap test fails or returns an unusable document link. Confirm the connected account, selected template, and JSON fields match the template’s expected data. Test the APITemplate.io action before mapping its Download Url into a later step.
- An APITemplate.io API request is rejected. Check that the request uses the documented POST method, v2 PDF endpoint, valid API key in the
X-API-KEYheader, JSON content type, and expected JSON structure. Use the current integration overview for the precise request format.
Or skip the browser setup
If you want a direct screenshot API call instead of configuring a Zap, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its capture flow accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. It also has an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents.
