First decide what “entire website” means. If you need one long webpage from top to bottom, save that page as a full-page image or PDF. If you need many linked pages available offline, create a website mirror; one screenshot or PDF does not capture a whole site. For interactive pages or an archival replay, use a browser-based web-archiving tool and check what it actually retained.
The right output depends on the job: PNG for a visual record of one page, PDF for a paginated document, a local mirror for offline browsing across pages, or WARC/WACZ for replayable archival captures. None of these formats alone proves that every page, image, or interaction was preserved.
Choose the kind of capture you need

For one page, use the relevant page-level method below. For a collection of pages, skip to the website-mirroring section. Stay within content you are permitted to access, and use a respectful crawl rate.
How to save an entire webpage as an image

- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Open the page context menu and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use the keyboard shortcut documented by Mozilla Support for your Firefox version.
- Choose Save full page, rather than a visible-area or selected-region capture.
- Download the resulting PNG, then open it and check that the bottom of the page and the sections you need are present.
Mozilla Support describes Firefox screenshots as a way to capture visible parts of a page or full webpages and save the images. This is a page-level visual capture: it is not a crawl of other pages linked from that page. If the page loads material only after scrolling or interaction, inspect the result rather than assuming every item was included.

When a screenshot is the wrong format
A PNG is useful when appearance is the main concern, but a tall page can become awkward to inspect or share. If you need a paginated document, use a PDF workflow instead. If you need working navigation among many saved pages, use a mirror rather than a flat image.
How to save one webpage as a PDF
Choose PDF when the deliverable should behave like a document rather than a picture. A PDF is still a capture of a page, not a collection of every linked page on a website.
- Open the specific webpage you want to preserve.
- Use your browser or operating system’s print-to-PDF capability. The exact menu labels and available layout controls vary by browser and version, so consult that browser’s current help rather than relying on a menu path that may have changed.
- Save the PDF, then open it in a PDF reader and inspect the page breaks, missing sections, and any content that matters to you.
Printed output can differ from the live page. A multi-column layout may paginate differently, and content that depends on scripts, delayed loading, or interaction may not appear as expected. Do not treat a saved PDF as proof that every part of a page—or every page on a site—was captured.
How to download a whole website for offline browsing
What a mirror does
HTTrack is a documented option for making a local website mirror. It copies a site into a local directory and rewrites links between saved pages so you can browse those pages locally. Its documentation also describes resuming interrupted work and updating an existing mirror. A mirror is a set of local files, not a single PDF or screenshot.

Set the crawl scope before starting
Decide which site and resources are in scope before you crawl. A site may link to documents hosted on a different domain or CDN. If you want those files, the crawl configuration may need to include that host. Likewise, a filter that keeps linked PDFs may need to allow the HTML pages containing those links; otherwise, the crawler may never reach the documents through the pages that reference them.
Do not assume a default crawl will include every URL, authenticated content, or pages generated only after an interaction. Keep the crawl within the scope you are permitted to access, and set a considerate crawl rate. HTTrack’s official documentation covers scope, filters, and limits.
Run and verify the mirror
- Choose the site and define the pages and resource hosts you intend to capture.
- Configure filters and limits for that scope. If the site links to PDFs or resources on another host, account for those links explicitly where appropriate.
- Start the mirror. If work is interrupted, HTTrack documents resuming it; it also documents updating an existing mirror.
- When the crawl finishes, read its log. HTTrack’s interface guide warns: “Read the log before you trust a mirror.”
- Open representative local pages and follow links. Check pages at different depths, images, styles, and any important documents. Record what is absent instead of calling the mirror complete based only on its appearance.
A mirror can look finished while images or other resources are missing. Inspecting the log and testing pages offline are essential checks, not optional polish. For content behind a login, highly dynamic pages, or interaction-heavy workflows, additional configuration or a browser-based capture approach may be needed; no general method guarantees those states will be included.
Optional archival output
HTTrack’s command-line guide documents writing WARC alongside an ordinary mirror and packaging a crawl as WACZ for replay tooling. These are options for readers who need an archival or replayable capture in addition to local files. Choosing WARC or WACZ does not by itself establish that the crawl is complete.

When to use browser-based web archiving
If your goal is to preserve a page’s interactive behavior or a particular browser state, a screenshot or printed PDF is too limited. Webrecorder describes browser-based capture of webpages and complex interactions, along with tools for automated archiving and replaying WARC/WACZ files. Treat this as an archival workflow to evaluate and verify, not a promise that every interaction or site state will be retained.
After capturing, replay the archive and test the interactions and pages that matter to your purpose. A static image can show appearance; a PDF can preserve a document-like rendering; a replayable archive aims at a different task. The format alone is not a completeness check.

The screenshot contains only the visible screen
Choose Firefox’s Save full page option, not a visible-area capture. Reopen the saved PNG and confirm the page extends to the intended bottom.
The PDF has missing sections or awkward breaks
PDF output can differ from the live page. Inspect the saved file before sharing or relying on it. If a section is absent, check whether it was loaded or revealed only after scrolling or interaction, then try an appropriate capture method and verify again.

The offline mirror has broken images or links
Read the HTTrack log and inspect representative pages offline. Check whether resources are served from another host and whether filters include the relevant pages and resource types. A mirror that appears to have finished may still be incomplete.
The mirror lacks pages that require a login or interaction
Do not infer that a standard crawl captured authenticated or dynamically generated content. Review the crawler’s scope and limits; for interaction-heavy preservation, consider a browser-based archiving workflow and test the replay.
The capture looks complete but cannot be verified
Define the pages, resources, and interactions that matter before capture. Compare the saved output against that checklist: inspect the log for a mirror, page breaks and sections for a PDF, or replayed states for an archive. No one format substitutes for checking the result against the intended scope.

Does “full-page screenshot” mean the whole website?
No. It means one webpage captured beyond the visible screen area. To collect linked pages for offline browsing, create a website mirror or use an archival workflow.
Can I preserve every interaction in a PDF?
A PDF is a document output, not a replayable record of every live interaction. For interaction preservation, evaluate browser-based archiving and test the replayed capture.
