On iPhone or iPad, take a Safari screenshot, open its thumbnail, tap Full Page, then save the result as a photo or PDF. That is Apple’s documented way to capture content below the visible screen. Safari on Mac uses a different whole-page workflow: File > Save As offers a Web Archive or Page Source, not the iPhone/iPad Full Page screenshot interface.
This guide explains each device-specific method, how to choose the right output, what to do when Full Page is missing, and how to capture a URL through an API when you need repeatable, automated results.

Capture an entire webpage on iPhone
- Open the page in Safari and wait for the content you need to load.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, press and release the Home and side buttons together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner. If you let it disappear, open the screenshot from Photos and use the available editing controls there.
- At the top of the screenshot editor, tap Full Page. Safari displays a tall preview containing content beyond the screen.
- Drag through the preview to inspect the capture. Use the crop handles if you want only part of the page, and add markup if required.
- Choose Save as Photo to keep an image, or choose Save PDF to Files when that option is shown. A normal screenshot thumbnail is saved automatically to Photos, while the Full Page editor provides the longer-page save choices.
Apple specifically describes this control as a way to capture an entire webpage in Safari, including content beyond the iPhone screen. See Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide.

Long pages can contain repeated headers, lazy-loaded images, or sections that render only after you scroll. Use the Full Page preview to check the lower sections before saving. If a graphic or section is absent, return to the live page, scroll through the missing area so it loads, and take the screenshot again.

Capture an entire webpage on iPad
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPad without a Home button, press and release the top button and either volume button. On an iPad with a Home button, press and release the top button and Home button.
- Tap the thumbnail, then select Full Page in the editor.
- Review and crop the long preview. Save it as an image to Photos or as a PDF to Files, depending on the controls shown on your iPad.
The button names and save behavior are documented in Apple’s iPad screenshot guide. The Full Page control is the important step; the initial button combination creates only the ordinary viewport screenshot until you select it.
Save a Safari webpage as an annotated PDF on iPhone
If your goal is a marked-up PDF rather than a long screenshot image, Safari has a separate share workflow:
- Open the page in Safari and tap the page menu (the control next to the address bar).
- Tap Share, then choose Markup.
- Annotate the page if needed.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, select a location, and save the PDF.
This route is described in Apple’s guide to annotating and saving a webpage as a PDF in Safari on iPhone. Use it when annotations are central to the deliverable; use Screenshot > Full Page when you want the dedicated long-capture preview and crop controls.

Save a whole webpage from Safari on Mac
Safari for macOS documents saved-page formats rather than an iPhone-style Full Page screenshot. To save the page:
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Choose File > Save As.
- In the format menu, choose Web Archive or Page Source.
- Name the file, choose a destination, and click Save.
Web Archive
A Web Archive stores the page’s graphics and other saved content in a Safari archive. Links can continue to work while their destination pages remain available. It is useful when you want to reopen a locally saved representation of the page rather than a single flattened image.
Page Source
Page Source saves the HTML source code only. It is appropriate for inspecting or retaining markup, not for preserving the visual appearance of the rendered page.

Apple warns that some webpages may prevent you from saving items that appear on the webpage. Dynamic content, access controls, embedded viewers, and resources that are not available to Safari at save time may therefore be missing. Apple’s current Mac instructions are at Save part or all of a web page in Safari on Mac.

Troubleshooting Safari full-page captures
“Full Page” does not appear
- Make sure you opened the screenshot editor by tapping the thumbnail immediately after taking the screenshot; the control is not part of Safari’s ordinary page menu.
- Confirm that the capture was made in Safari, not another app’s in-app browser.
- Try a normal webpage rather than a document viewer or an embedded app. Safari does not promise that every rendered surface supports the Full Page interface.
- Take a fresh screenshot after the page finishes loading. A stale thumbnail or an interrupted capture can leave you in the ordinary image editor.
The lower part of the page is blank or incomplete
- Scroll through the page first to trigger lazy-loaded images and sections, then repeat the capture.
- Wait for consent dialogs, login checks, or network requests to finish. A page that has not rendered its content cannot be captured accurately.
- Check the Full Page preview before saving; crop out an unwanted footer rather than assuming it was omitted accidentally.
The PDF or image option is unavailable
- On iPhone and iPad, the available save controls can differ by capture context and system version. Try the alternative save destination shown in the Full Page editor.
- For an annotated iPhone PDF, use the documented Page menu > Share > Markup > Save File To route.
- Check available storage and Files/Photos permissions if the save operation fails.
The Mac file does not look like a screenshot
That is expected. Web Archive preserves a saved webpage representation, while Page Source preserves HTML. Safari’s documented Mac workflow does not present the iPhone/iPad Full Page screenshot editor. If you need a flat visual image or PDF of a Mac page, use a capture service or another browser-based capture workflow.
Some page elements are missing
Safari may be unable to save resources blocked by the site, requiring authentication, loaded from a restricted embed, or generated only after interaction. Apple explicitly cautions that some webpages can prevent saving items. Treat the output as a capture of what Safari successfully rendered, not a guarantee that every remote asset will be reproduced.

For scripts, documentation pipelines, scheduled jobs, or a consistent result across many URLs, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it accepts cookie/consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled.
Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and every response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
Use the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for authentication and options. This cURL request captures a URL (replace the example URL and key):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The equivalent Python request is:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Options for production captures
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or any viewport, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/orientation/page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay, or network idle, blocking ads/trackers/requests/resource types, custom headers/cookies/user agent/Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, selectable cache TTLs, signed links for public image tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.

Practical reliability and privacy checks
- Verify the saved artifact: open the image, PDF, Web Archive, or source file immediately and inspect the bottom of the page.
- Preserve context: record the page URL and capture date when the file is evidence for a ticket, audit, or handoff.
- Handle sensitive pages carefully: a screenshot or archive can contain account data, personal information, or tokens visible in the page. Store and share it under the same controls as the source page.
- Expect content drift: a later reload can differ because pages change, sessions expire, or remote assets disappear. A saved artifact is a point-in-time record.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture a full Safari page without scrolling manually?
Yes. On iPhone and iPad, the Full Page editor extends the screenshot beyond the visible viewport, so manual scrolling is not required.
Does Safari on Mac have the same Full Page button?
Apple’s documented Mac workflow uses File > Save As with Web Archive or Page Source; it does not describe the iPhone/iPad Full Page screenshot editor.
Will a Safari full-page capture preserve interactive behavior?
A screenshot or PDF is a static output. A Web Archive may retain links while their destinations remain available, but it is not a guarantee that every interactive feature will continue to work.
