The quickest way to capture a webpage on an iPad is to open it in Safari, take a screenshot, tap the preview, and choose Full Page. You can then save the result as an image or PDF. Use Safari’s Share > Markup workflow when you need an annotated PDF, and use Control Center’s Screen Recording for motion or narration. The right method depends on whether you need a visible still, the entire page, a document, or a video.
Choose the capture method first

Apple describes the built-in screenshot feature as a way to capture the screen, grab a full page beyond its edge, or save a specific portion in its iPad screenshot guide. Labels can vary with iPadOS releases and iPad models.
Take a normal webpage screenshot
iPad without a Home button
- Open the webpage in Safari and position the page at the content you want.
- Quickly press and release the top button and either volume button together.
- Tap the thumbnail that appears. Edit or crop it with the on-screen tools, then tap Done.
- Choose Save to Photos or another offered destination. You can review it later in Photos under the Screenshots media type.
iPad with a Home button
- Press and release the Home button and top button together.
- Tap the preview to crop, annotate, share, or save it.
Press both buttons briefly; holding them can invoke other controls instead of taking a screenshot. A standard screenshot contains only the currently visible area.

Safari’s Full Page option is the built-in answer when a page continues below the screen.

- Open the page in Safari and take a screenshot using your iPad’s button combination.
- Tap the screenshot preview before it disappears.
- At the top of the editor, tap Full Page. A page-length preview appears on the right; drag it to inspect different sections.
- Use the crop controls if you need to remove margins or unrelated content.
- Tap Done, then choose the save option. Apple documents saving a full-page capture as an image or saving it as a PDF to Files.
Full Page is intended for a webpage such as the one open in Safari. It is not the same as stitching unrelated screenshots together, and very interactive pages may not render every state exactly as it appears while you scroll.
Save a webpage as an annotated PDF in Safari
Use this route when the deliverable is a document with notes, highlights, drawings, or a signature rather than a raw screenshot. Apple documents it in its Safari PDF guide.
- In Safari, open the webpage.
- Tap Share. If the action is not immediately visible, open the additional actions list.
- Tap Markup.
- Add annotations with the markup tools, if required.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, select a folder in Files, name the PDF, and tap Save.
This Share > Markup workflow is distinct from taking a screenshot, selecting Full Page, and choosing the PDF save option. Choose Markup for an annotated Safari document; choose Full Page when you primarily want a page capture.

Screen recording is appropriate for scrolling demonstrations, menu interactions, animations, or a narrated walkthrough. Apple’s screen-recording guide covers the controls.

Add Screen Recording to Control Center
- Open Control Center and add the Screen Recording control if it is not already present. The exact edit button can differ by iPadOS version.
- Tap the recording control and wait for the countdown.
- Return to Safari and perform the actions you want recorded.
- Stop by tapping the recording indicator and confirming, or open Control Center and tap the recording control again.
- Find the finished video in Photos.
Include microphone narration
Touch and hold the Screen Recording control before starting, turn on Microphone, then begin recording. This records your voice with the screen activity. Some apps block recording of their content, and Apple notes that screen recording cannot run at the same time as screen mirroring.
Alternative screenshot controls and preview settings
Apple Pencil
On supported iPads, swipe diagonally upward from either bottom corner with an Apple Pencil to take a screenshot. The Pencil is optional; the button method requires no accessory. Compatibility depends on the iPad model and Pencil.
AssistiveTouch and Siri
Apple lists AssistiveTouch and Siri as alternate ways to trigger a screenshot. These are useful if pressing two physical buttons is difficult, but their exact menu placement can vary.

Change the screenshot preview style
Apple’s current settings guide describes screenshot preview controls under Settings > General > Screen Capture. It also discusses Visual Look Up options on supported models and languages. Some iPadOS releases show a full-screen preview by default and let you switch to a temporary thumbnail; if your menu differs, search Settings for “Screen Capture.” See Apple’s screen-capture settings guide.

Reading List: preserve a page without exporting it
If “capture” means keep an article for later, add it to Safari’s Reading List instead. Apple says pages can be downloaded for offline reading and provides an Automatically Save Offline setting in its Reading List guide. A Reading List item remains a webpage for reading; it is not an image or PDF export.

The screenshot preview disappeared
Swipe from the left edge to reveal the screenshot thumbnail if it is still available, or take the screenshot again. The image is normally stored in Photos even if you do not open the preview.

Full Page is missing
Confirm that the screenshot was taken while the webpage was open in Safari, then tap the preview immediately and look for Full Page at the top. A regular app screen may offer only the visible-page editor. Update iPadOS if the control should be available but is absent; labels vary by release.
The PDF is not where expected
Full-page PDF captures go through the destination you select, commonly Files. Safari’s Markup workflow requires tapping Save File To; check the folder selected in that dialog rather than Photos.
Recording has no sound
Before starting, touch and hold Screen Recording and enable Microphone. System audio and app restrictions are separate; an app can prevent its content from being recorded.
The page is cut off or changes while loading
Wait for images and dynamic sections to load before capturing. For a long page, inspect the Full Page preview and crop it. If you need a deterministic automated result, use a screenshot service with selector or network-idle waits instead of relying on a live manual scroll.
