To capture just part of a webpage with Awesome Screenshot, open the extension and choose Capture > Selected Area in Chrome, Edge, and browsers using the Chrome extension, then drag over the region you want. Safari labels the command Capture Area; Firefox uses Capture Selected Area. If the command is unavailable on a restricted page, capture the visible page or screen and crop it, or use the desktop app.

- Load the webpage fully. Wait for images and other content to appear before selecting an area; content that shifts while loading can make the selection jump or capture the wrong region. Awesome Screenshot’s loading guidance explains this issue.
- Open the Awesome Screenshot extension from your browser’s toolbar. If it is hidden, use the browser’s extensions menu to open it or pin it to the toolbar.
- Choose the area-capture command for your browser: in Chrome, Edge, and browsers using the Chrome extension, select Capture > Selected Area; in Safari, select Capture Area; in Firefox, select Capture Selected Area. These labels are documented in the selected-area instructions.
- Drag over the region. Hold the left mouse button and drag across the part of the page you want included. Release when the selection covers the target content.
- Review the result. If annotation opens, use the available annotation controls or change the extension’s annotation behavior as described below.

In Chrome, Awesome Screenshot documents Alt+Shift+S as the default selected-area shortcut. Shortcuts can be customized in the extension’s Options or the browser’s extension-shortcuts page. The default may differ if it has been changed or conflicts with another shortcut; see the shortcut instructions.
Choose whether to annotate after capture
If the annotation editor interrupts your workflow, check the extension’s Skip Annotating setting. The documented choices are Never, Always, and Only When Capturing Full Page. Choosing Always skips annotation for an immediate result. See the annotation setting guide for the current controls.

Some pages are restricted by the browser and do not allow extensions to run their capture scripts. This can affect browser settings pages, extension pages, and Chrome pages such as chrome://. It does not necessarily mean the extension is broken. Awesome Screenshot documents these limits in its page restriction guide and Firefox troubleshooting article.

Workaround 1: Capture the visible page or screen, then crop
Use the extension’s Visible Part or Entire Screen & App Window option if available, then crop the saved image to the region you need. This is the practical fallback when the browser will not grant the extension access to the page.
Workaround 2: Use the desktop app
If the browser extension cannot capture the target, Awesome Screenshot also documents capture through its desktop app. The desktop workflow and available choices are described in its desktop capture guide.

Fix selection jumps or incorrect regions
- The selection jumps: wait until images and page content finish loading, then try again. Late-loading elements can move the content after you begin selecting.
- The captured region is offset or incomplete: let the page settle before capture, especially if images, embedded content, or other shifting elements are still appearing.
- The command is unavailable only on a particular page: check whether it is a browser-restricted page. Switch to visible-page or screen capture and crop, or use the desktop app.
- The shortcut does nothing: open the browser’s extension-shortcuts page or Awesome Screenshot Options and confirm the shortcut assigned to selected-area capture; the documented Chrome default may have been changed.
